Got these snails about a week ago before I left for vacation and did not notice before I left but I saw this when I got back. What is it?

Those guys all have that. I believe it's like a spine to ward off predators

Close - it's the snail's operculum; it's the "lid" or "trapdoor" to their shell. So, rather than fighting predators off, it seals their shell shut to protect them from predators.

Thanks for the response guys. Glad it’s not a pest.
