I feel like most reefers have some mad photography skills. When you have something so amazing as sea life in your home, you want to capture the beauty, right? I do.

We all know that cameras can only convey so much, and often even diminish the beauty. I want to see some of your best shots of your home reef and/or it's inhabitants! Make sure you include the equipment/programs you're using! I'll post mine in the comments.

P.S. I know we do POTM but this is just a "Show off you skills" thing. No prizes, just a girl dying to see your tank and show you mine. :)
Thanks Alycia!

I have been hoping for a more detailed thread like this!

Most of us just use our phone, or a simple camera with no add-on lens; yet the majority of people who post their photos on these photo-centric threads have expensive cameras and lenses - which for me, might as well be a NatGeo photographer giving their equipment list.
However, I know there are reefers (@Lasse ) who achieve great photos using an affordable camera with no lens; and many more who achieve great photos with just their phone and settings manipulation. I actually purchased the camera Lasse uses and he has been most helpful in showing the camera settings. See this post on his thread if you are interested.

If everyone, who is willing to, could cite what they are using to take the photo and the settings, that would be great. If there is an app used post-photo to edit, please cite that too. I do understand that some want to keep the detail’s proprietary in their photography and totally respect that; everyone should have a “secret sauce” in their tool belt!

I take photos with an iPhone 11 using an orange orphek clip-on camera filter to go over the phone's camera. I don't do much editing with those photos (maybe just some basic touch-up stuff using Luminar). Now, I have a Nikon 5600 that I also take pictures with using a basic 18-55mm lens on a tripod.

Thank you - that helps.

Only basic stuff here entry level dslr stuff here - nothing professional quality, a few lenses I bought used. Definitely under 1k in all my gear.

a canon 800d/ t7i depending on what country you buy it in.

Wide angle lens efs 10-22 - the nicest lens I own. This is the type of lens you want for real estate where you want the whole room in one photo. Quite a lot of fish eye effect wide open. That beautiful large lens is so round and perfect, it’s the highest quality lens I own, and the most used lens I have for taking photos of bathrooms during/after construction

Ef70-300 - decent hobby grade zoom lens, there are many versions of the 70-300, this version is probably the “best” of the entry level 70-300 lenses. Still not great but does the job for me.
IMG_4146.jpeg

Ef50mm - excellent cheap prime lens. Not really great for reef photography but a great lens for other things.
IMG_4147.jpeg

Efs18-55 - the “kit” lens - the cheap lens that comes with most cameras. A good focal range for every day stuff.

Thank you for these specific details broken down so even I can understand. I know this isn’t rocket science, and past the tech there is true art to photography.

I have always had an interest in photography but it was macro photography that finally "grabbed " me. The idea of observing beauty not apparant to the naked eye appealed to me. Some reef and non reef pictures. I shoot with our old Nikon D90 and a Olympus TG6, and edit in Lightroom.
