So did you do anything special to start up the tank? Any bacteria, pods or any other imports?
Greg,

I used Dr Tims “One and Only” and waited maybe 2-3 weeks with a pair of clowns before loading in sps frags. Its been almost 4 months and every single frag(50+)has been doing great. Im also running an ATS and tested my water today with zero PO4 and NO3.

Have you put water in your tank yet? Any special plans for cycling?

Cool, I planned to do the same with Dr Tim’s. Also plan on adding pods as well. I did this with my 25g and it has been worry free!

Not water I tank yet.

Personally like a blend of pukani and Marco shelf rock, as opposed to just shelf, but the stuff is rad and easily the best shelf rock I’ve seen in the hobby.

+1

I like a mix of rock as well. Why limit yourself to one type.

Big issue with that is that Pukani Rock is scarce as hen's teeth around about now! For now, we are for the most part limited to mined rock and man made rock.

LOL DTOTM

I hoarded another 40 lbs before you couldn't get it anymore. Reefing gold bars hehe

Your scape looks awesome. That rock is definitely crazy nice... it just depends on the look you want. But like you said, in 3 years you won't even see the rock.

I don't agree that $1 per lb rock would come close to that. Sure if you just get lucky at a store or a hobbyist breaking down... but the majority of live rock at that price point will look like a bunch of round boulders.

I have started with marcorocks with my saltwater experience. I just bought a piece of live rock from lfs and just waited over time for the everything to spread over time. I never bought any shelf pieces but will in the future.
That plan of attack is very popular!

I started with a hammer and chisel on mine. Remember to use rule of thirds. Don’t center your scape. The use of negative space adds interest. Also putting rock at an angle can add to your scape. Use the foreground and background. Also very the height of you rocks.

The foreground rocks are not in yet. Going to put some rock columns where the top is bigger then the bottom. Probably three of them all different heights. A mix of these two types of rock:
