I’m looking to buy 2 caramel ocellaris clownfish. I can’t find them at a lfs near me, so I’m looking at buying them online. A pair costs me $150 but buying 2 costs me $70 is it worth buying the paired clowns or pairing them myself?

In my (limited) experience, as long as the second one you introduce is much smaller, they will eventually pair up, since you are looking for tank raised, it should be easy to get immature and not accidentally introduce 2 females.

Use an acclimation box or tank divider

I've always paired them myself, I just buy the two smallest juveniles that I like. If they are young enough they will figure it out themselves.

I pair them myself but it isn't always as easy as people think. Size doesn't always matter unless you buy one and keep it single long enough to be positive it has transitioned to female then add a small male. Just search the threads here "why are my clownfish fighting and you'll see what I'm talking about. It can be more complicated than just adding two of different size.
