Is a skimmer all the gas exchange you need?

I bought a kessil a long time ago because I loved how it looked at the LFS. I am realizing I only like it when there is very little surface agitation.
Would my skimmer be enough gas exchange to minimize the surface agitation?

I know if I had a ph probe I could just watch my PH but I do not yet.

With less ripple I'd also like to get black netting for my lid so I can check the aquarium out from above

depends on size of tank versus size of skimmer,,,but regardless, it won't hurt

It should fine on its own but you’ll notice an oil slick on top of your tank with no zero agitation at the surface.. best to circulate it!
