Hi all

Not sure why I can't find this anywhere. I have seen lots of discussion on how to top off, or when to top off a kalk stirrer, but not what the initial dose should be if you want fully saturated kalk, and are using it as a supplement drip, NOT an ATO. Specifically discussing an Avast Marine K2.

So for an Avast Marine K2, it should be pretty standard what the initial amount of kalk would be needed to start with a fully saturated solution. I saw somewhere that the "capacity" is 4 cups on kalk, but I have no clue if that's what I should load in there to have fully saturated kalk for some time, then top off as needed every couple weeks or month. Or if a lesser amount like 2 cups starts you off initially with fully saturated kalk for the next couple weeks at least (obviously depends on how much you dose into your tank).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Saturation isn't based on the amount of powder you add, so long as you don't run out, so make sure it has some visibly in the bottom after it starts stirring and you should be doing fine.

Provided there is more in the reactor than would be required to make the full volume saturated, having it stirred and having the throughput be low enough should guarantee that effectively every drop that leaves is saturated. If flow rate through is too high or the kalk level in the bottom is too low, it may not quite be saturated at the output.

Start with 2 cups, having too much in there can cause it to lump up and lessen the lifetime of the stirring motor/ lots of resistance.

Time length before you need to add another cup or two will depend on how many gallons you are pushing through the stirrer per day.
For normal home applications, it won't need anymore added for at least 21days -1 month will produce fully saturated kalkwasser of ~30 days.
