that would be sweet to have one in my tank. would be worried it would be smarter than me and escape. it be nice to see it change colors, i guess after awhile you could know what mood it was in by its colors.

Good luck man! I would love to keep one, used to plan on it for a short bit until I read up on them. I will just admire in the wild. the color changing patterns are amazing. I think they are cooler than octopus. THREAD BOMB!

I ordered some eggs a little while back and they never hatched despite my best efforts. I'm guessing they were dead when they arrived. I will probably try again one day.
I used Octopus, Squid, Cuttlefish, and Nautilus - The Cephalopod Page as well when I was researching this little guys. They are cool creatures that are worth the care. Goodluck with them.

Sorry to necro post - there are no cuttles in the Americas, what you saw in the keys was most likely a Sepioteuthis spp, a reef squid that resemble cuttles, but are squid. The resembelance is noted in the genus name 'Sepio' refers to cuttles and 'teuthis refers to squid. Very cool to see in the wild. Here is one I just saw in Borneo (Just for you Rev!):
Cuttlefish are awesome to bad they only live a year even with the greatest care. From what I have read though they can be little egg factories with lots of babies in that year. Tropicalfish magazine did a article on them a few years back so you maybe able to find that on the Internet. I hope that helps.
