This might be a silly question but when I had dinos (prorocentrum) several months ago, I ordered (real) live rock to increase the lacking biodiversity of my new tank.

One of the (large) rocks (highlighted in blue, picture) I ordered did not really 'fit' in/too large, but I still added it to maximize the benefits.

It does bother me now though visually and it does make maintenance harder, and I wanted to hear what the impact on water chemistry would be if I was just to remove it now.

Also, should I keep this rock in a saltwater bucket for later use or would this bacteria, etc not survive in colder water (California cold :)...).

Thank you.

if its the size that bothers you, why not smash it into appropriate size pieces?
EDIT: but pulling out one rock won't affect anything, to answer your question.

Depending on how long you've had it for, I don't think removing one rock will all of the sudden disrupt everything. Although the majority of your bacteria are in the rock and sandbed etc. a lot will also travel in your water column to and from other structures. I don't think removing it after a while will damage your biodiversity that much, as long as you keep the other rocks and sandbed etc.

Hammer and a chisel to split or if you are lucky enough to own a a masonry saw, cut it.
