Because in that chart you posted above the exposure is only 180,000 uw/cm which is for freshwater ich.

Marine Ich requires 280,000 uw/cm as shown on the chart I posted, thus the flow rate is much lower.
Hu that is good to know. So could I use a pump that is rated for 270gph and then use a ball valve at the return part of the pvc to dial it in to the 100gph that you recommend?

https://a.co/d/09F9XEZJ with this pump I just worry that with the pump having to push through the pvc and then height of the UV being 4 ft tall it won’t be able to achieve the gph I need. But it is only 14 bucks and then if I need bigger I can buy bigger, but the next pump up is 400 gph with 5.2ft of lift. Not sure which one to go after espically because I have no clue how much the little dial will turn it down.

Best thing to do is a ball valve on the pump output and then measure the flow using either in inline flow meter, or better still to simply fill a bucket at tank level for 60 seconds and aim for 2 gallons in the bucket.

Or 1 gallon in 30 secs :)

People put way too much thought into this. First, UVs like these will never eliminate parasites. Always QT or buy QT livestock.

For clarity , which is all they are really good for, just hook it up to your return plumbing and let it go.

Also as someone mentioned, these units fail around 2-4 years. When you turn the bulb on make sure you have it in a place where it’s dark. Yo u will soon see the light through the housing. At that point t the unit is failing.

UV was big a few years back. Was hoping it would die out sooner. Unless you are using about 1 watt /gallon, it’s not very useful except for clarifying.

Well already have it so mine aswell slap it on. even if it doesn't help I have heard stories of it helping people and it's extra peace of mind too making them healthier which is my end goal. I always buy off people breaking down their tanks because that is where you usually find the top-notch fish that are model citizens.

The setup I made for my Pentair 40w UV sits right behind my tank and sump and feeds in. Leak testing in a bathtub, then will post a picture once I have it in place on the tank. I strapped it to a 2x4 to get it even and I cut my 2 pipes a tad too close to the edge of the sump and added a shim to raise the outlet side of the UV to allow any air bubbles to exit as I have read that any air bubble will create a hot spot and ruin quartz tube and UV light. Also used an old milk jug and Dripdepot.com to calculate my GPH and wanted to set it in the middle for Protozono which is 157-267 and I got it at 207.8 which is good enough for me. The Vivosun 400GPH pump I bought on a fully open ball valve and full on the little side button on the pump only made 284GPH even tho rated for 400GPH with my current setup for anyone in the future. Also, the biggest barb fitting it comes with is 5/8 and it is more of a slip fitting than barb fitting but a couple of zip ties and you are snug.
