Just bought one used and buying new bulb, quartz sleeve, and all of the fittings to plumb to a 180 very soon. I plan on doing a closed loop (its own return pump) but I am not sure what pump to use. If you currently run this can you share what pump you use? I would ideally like a pump that I can achieve the 157-262GPH for the protozoa and 943-1574 for algae and bacteria. I know I can only do one at a time but if I get new fish or if I notice anything, I would like to run it to kill ich and parasites, then once everything is comfortable in the future turn up the flow to clean the water and avoid cleaning the glass more than once a week!
Thanks for the input in advance!
Also bonus if your able to show pics of it plumbed. Would LOVE to see for my own sake to figure out how to in my brain.

Vicodin and freesea have affordable options on Amazon. Very easy to adjust. Is there a current problem that you are experiencing?
Vicodin, and freesea are return pump brands?

Also no at the moment waiting for parts to come in for it, I have the new bulb coming soon and quartz sleeve then I need to order new inlet and outlet unions and decide how to plumb it. I was thinking to hang it horizontal on the back of my stand but there is alot of benefits sitting it vertical on the wall so no air bubbles make hot spots and I have the ability to place it like that as well. Just trying to decide everything to do with it now before I start drawing and building. Would it be smart on the outlet to add a ball valve to tune in the flow even better?

VIVOSUN. LOL. they are AC pumps cheap and reliable. Perfect for your pump only UV setup.

Do you think if I really am trying to get more expensive tangs i just set my UV to the lower flow for ich control and stuff and leave it and not get a variable pump to turn up for algae control?

@tzabor10 Or anyone please chime in, do we think that this pump with 400GPH and has the ability to turn down would be able to pump from my sump through some PVC and up through my UV which will be vertical standing about 4ft tall back to the sump and maintain the 400GPH so I can turn it down to 200gph for the protozoa control? says it has 5.2ft of lift height, but is that 5.2ft at 400gph or after 5.2 it cant pump past that?

Make sure to shine a flashlight down it to look and make sure the walls have not thinned out from the previous owner before you put this into use.

Has anyone ordered the inlet and outlet replacement parts of the Pentair website? If so does the pair the refer to account for the unions for the inlet and outlet for $60.58, or is it for the PVC fitting and union for only one for $60.58 meaning you have to buy 2 for the inlet and outlet?

FYI

The flow rate required for a Pentair 40 is 120 gal per hour (maximum) for 280MJ /cm2 exposure which is required for Marine Ich.

I believe you may be using the number for Freshwater Ich which is a different beast.

You need either a DC pump or a gate/ball valve on the UV, unless you intend to run a very underpowered pump for it.

You need to dial in flow otherwise a UV is pointless.

If your going the DC pump, i recommend the Hygger 24V DC, get the lowest one, and probably a low setting on it will work.

Quarantine would be better.

LOL.. i just passed on all the ich factory tangs... like the powder blue / Achilles.
Even with a QT i still somehow managed for them to get ICH... i don't even know how... i think maybe possibly on a frag plug or something.

Because in that chart you posted above the exposure is only 180,000 uw/cm which is for freshwater ich.

Marine Ich requires 280,000 uw/cm as shown on the chart I posted, thus the flow rate is much lower.
