I believe this is green cyano. I have tried other cyano treatments on the past for red cyano but I had fish die off. (I followed the instructions). It was chemipure I think. I am just looking for Ideas please.

i have heard sea cucumbers can help, so i got one for my tank and have been cyano free ever since. if you are worried about them nuking your tank all i can say is mine never has and i had my tank over heat and alot of inverts died but my cucumber was totally fine so i think they are tougher than people say.

Manual removal and get some nutrients under control
+1
Recently had a cyano issue. Was able to rid it without chemicals by getting nutrients in check. Dropped no3 and raised po4. Also dosed bacteria weekly and bubble scrubbed at night. Took a little time but feel it's a better long term solution than chemical methods

Thank you guys for ideas. My nitrates fluctuate. Some weeks 20-40 some times it is 0-20. I am trying weekly water changes. I am running chemipure elite for control and i also using a pho tumbler with ferric oxide. I am really trying to get on top of this same as with the green algae. My phosphates read 0 on a tester(I know this could be due to green algae).

I would go this route and avoid products like chemiclean as they contain antibiotics and is just a temporary fix. I would focus on getting nutrients under control.

Honestly, I believe the statement of "chemicals=bad" is way too simplistic. Getting nutrient balance right is ofcourse where we want to end up. However, in the process of doing so cyano can and will manage to linger simply because it also adjusts to the "ideal nutrient balance". It simply finds itself a spot and fixes itself there. Don't mistake nutrient balance for a remedy against cyano, its not. If that happens, chemiclean can blast it right out of the tank and let the balance resettle around beneficial bacteria.
So, chemiclean + balancing nutrients is definitely an option. I did it recently and has worked beautifully.
Oh, and it does not contain antibiotics, says so on the package.

Maybe they changed it, if it says it has erythromycin then that is an antibiotic. Chemiclean does work but IMO it should be a last resort. Plus, I always had a little cyano, a little algae and it never hurt anything. Were all here to help and what works for some might not for others. Happy reefing all.
