Carpet anemones are less likely to travel across the tops of rocks but still possible .
Maxi mini carpet anemones are great ,
They don’t really travel , they stay small (3”-5”) I have 2 both roughly the same size


I love anemones but don’t want them bulldozing through corals

Has anyone tried dividing their tank into coral side and anemone side?

I could see something like egg crate or an acrylic panel with tons of holes possibly working as a divider.
Probably not very pretty though...
Also might limit fish you could have.

Maybe just adding a connected tank would work better.

Keeping an anemone absolutely adds to the complexity of the tank. What is it you wish to accomplish? If it’s just to have one, then the choices open up significantly. Mini maxi (or is it maxi mini, never can bother to remember) or rock flowers are awesome for a reef tank. But they are not symbiotic host anemones, so if the goal is to have one that will host a clowns, that’s a lot tougher. Most folks go with a BTA, pretty easy to keep but 50:50 on hosting potential and will split if happy. I personally view them as almost-majano-level pests. I have never kept a long tentacle, but the other host anemones mostly get very large and are extremely difficult to keep. Some may even decide to eat your fish.

I keep magnifica (incorrect name Ritteri) in my large tanks. My current charge is pushing 24”. Very tricky to acclimate and will occasionally go on a rampage. Carpets stay in the sand, but also get very large and haddoni, particularly, is a frequent fish eater ..... preferring your most expensive fish.

That might be an ok route i didn’t know there are sand bed anemones.

I like the LTA a lot. It is a beautiful anemone

You will need very good parameters and a minimum 4inch sand bed
All worth it for what is, on my opinion, a beautiful addition to any marine aquarium.
My tank is finally in a good place and I am on the hunt for a purple specimen.
As your tank is new, you have time to de relevant research before pulling the trigger on whichever anemone you go with.
I bought my first LTA too early as saw a good one in the shop and bought it. Was happy for two weeks then detached and perished. A most upsetting situation for me which i would not wish on anyone.

All anemones move and roam. I wouldn’t recommend it if you want to avoid that. But a nice torch or elegance coral would stay put. And had the same illusion as a long anemone.
