I've noticed that the typical frag disks or plugs are pretty porous, and it's often tough to pull zoa or paly mats from them without damaging them. however, on the few acrylic plugs I have, they remove easily. This is a big help in fragging. I can simply pull the mat and glue down whatever I want to another disk. I got searching for squares because they will sit tightly to each other and be better for allowing mats to grow across, as opposed to round disks. Here's a link to what I have found...and the price isn't too bad. $0.15 each for 1" squares, .118" thick. Anybody have suggestions, warnings, advice, other sources or options? I don't know. I bought a frag rack once that had acrylic frag plugs and they didn't... but that is something to think about before buying these. Maybe some acrylic will float and some won't.

Ceramic tiles work good also. You can get the ones at Lowes with the mesh between them. The ones you typically see in bathrooms. They are usually 12 x 12 with like 144 individual smaller one inch tiles with the mesh holding them together.

You can get them on clearance sometimes for five or ten dollars.

I'm not sure about them floating but after my recent experience with regular frag plugs...yeah, I'd like to try acrylic ones.

I emailed them and they said they do sink in water. I plan to order some...just haven't yet. Something else I have found is the slick surface seems to resist hair algae and stuff. Coralinne will slowly grow on it but can be chipped off easily.

I have 4 acrylic plugs that came with a frag rack I purchased. You guys/gals can have them if you want so you can try them prior to purchasing.

I ordered 150 of these. Bulk rate cuts down cost per piece due to shipping. Cost still comes to about .25 each. If anybody wants some I can sell for that.
