So about 4 weeks ago I noticed some scratching in my bird wrasse we goes against a rock while swimming and fastly turns his body side ways to scratch. I started hyposalinity at 1.009-1.0010 and he didn’t for awhile but I’m noticing he is again right now. It doesn’t make sense for me though because I thought flukes and ick can’t reappear with that salinity? I don’t know what else it could be. Other than that he is acting normal and eating well. It is only him I see scratching.

How long has the wrasse been at full hyposalinity?

How often are you seeing them scratching?

There is also idiopathic scratching, where the cause isn’t flukes, but rather, random particles in the water causing the fish to itch, or in some cases, no apparent case at all.

The wrasse has been in there for 4 weeks. I see him scratching every once in awhile I just noticed it this morning. He scratched like 4 times in a row but haven’t seen him do it again yet.

When would you say I should start bringing salinity back up
I hold fish in full hypo for 30 days, so you are near that.

There is also a slight risk that these are brackish water flukes - hypo won’t work on those. To be honest though, I don’t see those in the pet trade, more commonly seen in public aquariums that bring in a variety of brackish water fishes for their displays.

So you would just leave him in there or would you put prazi pro or something. Is there any other disease that is common that im leaving out

I believe that some of it (as well as the oft quoted glass surfing) relates to the environment. Of course disease ruling out - Is of primary importance

I’d pull them slowly out of hypo (gradually over 5 days) and then hold them for 14 days and reevaluate.

I just witnessed my tang scratch too would you recommend bring it back up still? I do have prazi pro so I can do it after I bring it up.

It’s the first time I’ve seen him do it
30 days of hypo kills all species of flukes except the brackish water ones. I don’t think that’s the issue here since they are so rare, but you could go back to full salinity and then run a course of prazi, 3x, 8 days apart.

I was gonna just assume it’s nothing but right after the tang starts scratching idk it feels a little sketchy
