So Ive set up a hypo salinity QT tank for my fish. I have a huge algae bloom and I saw a lot of die off with trying in the DT and had an ammonia spike. So my main question is can I slowly acclimate the fish to my newly set up QT tank at the hypo salinity level or bring it up to normal and observe them and let the tank go fallow?

Hypo is salt level 1.009 and you can quickly drop salinity with my method- take a quart container and remove a quart and replace with quart of RO water until you reach desired salinity. Increasing must however be dione SLOWLY
Algae-
Is tank at or near a window?
If not, can be use of tap water, overfeeding, expired RODI cartridges or lack of filtration

Probably lack of filtration, waiting on a part for my protein skimmer and my nozzles on the returns broke so I dont have my sump running at the moment until I get them in the mail. Of course they were not eligible for prime delivery lol

When i did a hyposalinity i just put the fish in the quarantine tank at a normal 35ppt and every like 30 minutes i slowly lowered the salinity until it got to 1.009 instead of acclimating to the 1.009 normally and it worked well.

Yeah 100%. Got oxygen and wave pumps and stuff and doing a water change weekly until I can get the parts and get the sump back up and running. This tank has been nothing but a PITA!!! But my fish love the room so Im persistent to fix the issues with the tank so they can have a good home. Kinda got a little bit screwed by the previous owner

@vetteguy53081 so is it a good idea to raise the QT tank up to normal salinity and then gradually lower it? I just filled it with fresh saltwater today

raise SLOWLY, but you can drop quickly
Oh I mean transferring my fish from the main DT thats normal salinity to the tank with hypo salinity. Should I being that up in the QT and then drop it or can I acclimate them to the QT at hypo?

Are there already fish in the hypo tank? You don't want to raise them up and then take them back down.

I've never tried acclimating fish straight into hypo, I always take two days to do that (6 small changes) to get fish into hypo.

As stated, do not go from full salinity and drop them into hypo ,,,,,, lower the hypo salinity once in the QT tank after 12 hours of them being in the QT tank
