Great call on the fire fish--they are beautiful and have big personalities! If I were your student, I would probably keep an eye on them all day long.

Tank is looking very good, especially after the long break!

Looks like cyano. Is that it on your rocks as well?

Not really. Maybe a little on the back of the rocks where it’s hard to see but it is mainly on the sand.

I would do a water change and try and suck all of that up. If it comes back you will probably have to treat for cyano. Are you using vibrant of reefroids? How often are you feeding?

I did recently start using Reef-Roids and an amino acid which I think I’ll switch to every couple of days instead of everyday.

I was feeding 3x a day especially since I’m not there on weekends and was concerned that they weren’t getting enough but starting this week I’ve reduced it to 2x a day.

Try just feeding the tank for a bit and see how it does without rr.

Quit using reef roids. It will just feed the cyano. I only feed my tank about once every two days. It takes a while to starve out fish. 3x a day is a little bit too much for the amount of fish you have in there.

Wow once every 2 days. I’m definitely giving my tank way too much food.

Increased flow usually fixes cyano issues. I have 2 powerheads and the return pump in my 29 cube and I have never seen cyano since.

I just bought a second hydor koralia with higher flow rate for the tank. Any recommendations on pump placement?

Currently I have a single 425 gph koralia nano smack in the middle of the tank pointing towards the front glass

Try left side about midway from front to back.

I'm you could also raise the rear one so the rock hides it and the fish can utilize the cave better. It should also bounce the flow to cover the whole rear of the tank that way.

Try feeding no more than once a day. Every other day is what I do, but the firefish do enjoy daily feedings.

I’m definitely going to start reducing my feedings. I just got my new koralia today and hooked it up. So this is the setup i have now.

A weird thing happened when i got into class today. I noticed the frag where my zoanthids were was bare.

I thought it died because it wasn’t opening as good as it once did. The coral must’ve dislodged from the plug and was sitting in the sand. I’m not sure how to reattach it since the plug is glued in. So far the time being I’ve placed the coral near the top of the aquascape in a small opening.

Not sure if it’s a place I can keep it long term. It does seem to opening up nicely.

It looks very happy id leave it there.

+1 on leave it there. They like high light. Eventually it will attach to the rocks and start spreading. Pump placement looks good.

If just 1 powerhead I like it on the back wall to the right between the overflow grates. Aim it towards the front glass and aim your return about the same on the other side.

If 2 powerheads it’s worth mounting on the opposite side in the same fashion. You get some areas with one way flow but others with random currents from the 2 currents meeting and bouncing off the glass.

If you get wavemakers the mounting options are endless.
