How do I tell if a clownfish is breathing rapidly? I want to be able to look after the health of my pair. It seems to me all clownfish breathe pretty rapidly.

Thanks for your reply. My question was generally how to tell if a clownfish is breathing rapidly--a wider mouth, more frequent breaths, more pronounced openings in the gills?

But as you probably guessed the reason for this question does pertain to my clowns, specifically my male. I got him skinny, and so far has not increased in size. That seems to be his only issue, although he does favor the very bottom of the tank.

Does this video indicate rapid breathing?

You can't really tell from this video but from other physical signs he looks okay. Maybe try to get a better video while he isn't moving around as much ?. Imo as long as he is eating fine and active he should be okay. I'd still get another opinion from someone more experienced here

The smaller clown is breathing a bit fast. What is more concerning is how thin it is. At this stage, it has used a lot of its liver as energy to avoid starvation. Even with it eating for you now, it may not be able to rebuild the damaged liver. Can you feed it multiple times a day? You want to ensure it is getting as much food as possible.

Thanks, Jay. Ive had it for 2 weeks, and purchased it like this. It's my first tank so I was not aware it was so skinny at the time. I can feed multiple times a day and will begin to now.

Update: Clown has been a lot less active past 2 days. Has stayed in the bottom of the tank, occasionally resting on sand (still upright). Now its in corner and looks to be struggling. Since I realized it was skinny I have been feeding more often and making sure he gets enough. Not sure what I can do at this point

anything I can do?

Is the other clown symptom free? If so, then this is probably the progression of starvation that I had mentioned, if the fish becomes to weak to feed, then there is nothing that can be done, sorry!
