Hi, I'm considering fragging/ cutting my mushroom's as they are overgrowing the 40mm 1half " inch square frag plates.
In the past I have tried cutting off my aquascape a large 4inch mushroom, I will say unsuccessfully as now there is two in the same spot and getting close to 4inch again
So my obvious fault was not removing all fully from aquascape.
From the removel of this mushroom I cut into quarters through the mouth and foot with a very sharp scalpel (out of my aquarium) and glued to frag plugs, I dipped X2 in a small amount of diluted reef dip and X 2 in revive reef cleaner and placed back in my aquarium just to experiment.
These frags started growing great and rounded off nicely, great colours....
The only problem was they constantly smelled of death/rotting flesh, even after 4months -6 months they was nearly 2" inch in size but still smelt of death/ rotting flesh.
So this puts me in position of hesitance to frag my current mushrooms.
Alot have split naturally which is great to manage (just cut frag plug and glue to bigger plugs/plate) easy.
I now have Dremel and multi tools to attempt to remove the two larger mushroom from my aquascape and hopefully be more successful so I will start with these in my cutting/dissection attempt number 2
I have researched so much but hard to find mushroom cutting, I have seen bandsaws used, I have seen bone cutters used, various knifes and blades but no end results from these... which leads me to believe unsuccessful
45g 200litre aquarium 4-5 years old, all parimaters stable, everything is growing, all good
My first question would be 'what do you use to cut a mushroom cleanly'
'How do you cut.. in half or quarters, what size to consider before cutting'
'what dip to use to help heal'
I'm honestly unsure about the whole process due to my last failure so any... honestly anything in the smallest detail will be highly appreciated
