I have a 185 gallon FOWLR and 125 mixed reef, both running Simplicity 320DC's. I have to empty both at least every other day, and more like every day on the FOWLR. Medium bioload's in each tank. The FOWLR will sometimes blow the lid off if I've had to treat the tank for something. How often do you empty your skimmer cups?

i have 125 with 17 fish and I empty the cup every other day. one of these days I'll hook up the drain tube on the bottom of the cup so it drains into a larger (closed) bucket, but for now I just walk it to the toilet , dump, rinse, and replace. lot of poop to skim out

That’s a lot of skimmate. I have a 240 FOWLR with a HOB skimmer and a Reefer 625 reef with a Red Sea 300 skimmer.

I empty both about once a week.
I guess I should clarify. The cups hold about 20 ounces, but are not completely full. I find they get "gunked up" pretty easily and don't flow skim mate as easily after a day or two.

I check my cup every 3-4 days. I empty it about every 2-3weeks at the rate it runs at and I clean the neck Bi-weekly.

This is about my schedule as well on the only tank out of 4 that I run a skimmer on. 180 gallon mixed reef. I skim dry and probably don't even need a skimmer. I've forgotten to turn it on for several days at a time after WC and nothing looks any different.

My skimmer cup drains into a 3-gallon tub. I have a power head in the tub that pumps to the slop sink when necessary. Neck cleaner in skimmer means I only remove to clean the neck/head every couple of months. Haven't cleaned out the tub in years.
