Hi there

I am setting up a new reefer 350 and I am not sure how many would I need if I go with a360x or one is enough for AP9X.

I saw some in the forum running 2 , 3 or 4 A360x . If running a360x , tuna blue or tuna sun? What would be the best light setting for either one.

2 a360x tuna blue for lps/softies, 3 for sps (possibly 4 down the road if shadowing becomes an issue). Or, 2 ap9x.

Just setup a IM 100gal with very similar dimensions as the reefer 350. I went with 2x AP9X and I love the shimmer, color and sleek profile. Haven't introduced corals yet so cant speak on that, but have read they are great from softies to SPS. BRS did an awesome video on them that really helps you set them up as far as height and width from one another and the resulting par levels. That was a big plus for choosing them. Set them up to BRS recommendations no need to rent/buy par meter. You can see some pics of them in my build thread and I put a link of the BRS video below. Happy reefing!

I have 2 9xs and 3 360s. I think it all depends on your goals. My LFS has a 180 lit by 2 AP9xs that is a beautiful mixed reef. By that logic a single 9x would be fine. On the other hand the most beautiful SPS reefs I have seen use at least 1 180w light per 2 feet of tank. By that logic 2 9xs or 3 360s would work.

The truth is most people I know aren't all about SPS in that case the correct answer for most people is a single 9x.

What's your goal with coral? Softies? LPS? Mixed? Sps? Here's my formula for Kessil's and corals. 3' long tanks AP9X, covers mixed and softies well. 360x for mixed is one 360x for every 24", softies you can get more coverage. Sps one AP9X for every 32"x18" and one 360x for every 18"x18". The numbers here here are for branching/stags, but with tabling and plating sps, you're probably safe with the mixed reef suggestions. I haven't used the AP9X, so my suggestions are based off my experience with the AP700, so I think you'll get better mileage from the AP9X though. Hopefully you can make sense of my ramblings?

I m doing the a360x’s. Currently have 2 with a third on the way and debating on the 4th. The benefit of using the 360 vs the ap9x is you have the ability to position each puck where you want it so you can optimize the coverage. Btw I’m super impressed with these lights. Super small form factor you can work in the tank easily without having to move them.

Agreed ... I was contemplating of one ap9x and 2 360x after the advice from jpnegrete14 but I don’t know if they can be connected together so end up going for 3 a360x.

Just to make a note of it I have 2 AP9X, 1 360X, and 2 A360s all controlled through 1 AP9X

You can, but mine are all synced together. There is also a setting where you can make a 0-10v program based on the k-link program and it generates automatically. the lights dim up and down together and the weather effects happen simultaneously
