How do you maintain the coraline algae so it does not fade away?
Read my post above. Temp cal alk meg stability is key. No large swings and you will be in the money. Figure out what your tank uses per day and dose accordingly

The rock was purple and it was in a container of saltwater in the back of the store and I have a few corals that came with it on the plate but it hasn't gone anywhere around the tank.
Probably just "seeded" dry rock. My local store does this with Caribsea brand "liFe rock", they throw it in a tank at the back of the store and sell it for a higher prices. . . despite it not really being liVe rock. . .

As said buy others, get something that has coraline algae and put it in the tank. I took some scraping of the glass from an old tank then rubbed it between my fingers in front of the power head to try and disperse it. . . I got coraline. . . though I had other sources in the tank too.

Maintain the same parameters and especially lighting. Especially, especially, eradicate any hair algae, Bryposis, bubble algae or any other nuisance algae that will overgrow it and suffocate it.

I think the key here is disturbing the existing bed of Coralline. Just letting it grow will produce a small incremental growth, Put an urchin that eats coralline in the tank and it's like they farm the stuff, because the small particles drift and land then colonize.
