No matter who it is .
they always notice our least favourite coral or cheapest fish that we dislike .
“ oh look . You have nemo , or is that stuff alive . “
“Those pink bushy things ( Xenia ) are very pretty @

People like it...but yes..acros are the least interesting of the bunch. My wife teaches zoology and had her science department over for a wedding shower for her coworker. They didn't understand how I was able to do it..as in..wait..how?...he's not one of us..lol.

They don't care very much besides the regular, is that a snail is that Nemo and how much time does this take you?
I am guessing that is the case for most people which is why heading to the forums has always been popular.

We don’t get a ton of company. A couple thoughts on the matter:

My wife takes zero part in any product or livestock acquisition. Zero involvement in maintenance, and the only things she can name are “corals, tank, clownfish, Fox face, rocks, lights, fans (powerheads)”. But she is always the one that gives the grand tour of the entire system. It’s the first thing she shows people when they come over for the first time (it’s tucked away in the office, not out in the open).

Nearly everyone asks how I can possibly keep it so clean. Do I take all the rocks out and scrub them all the time, there’s no algae!?!

Some ask if I hire professionals to “service” it.

Some ask where all the livestock actually comes from, which I explain the concepts of aquaculture, mariculture, wholesale acquisition, and local rehoming. Most get super bored quickly.

My wife tells them how I constantly ship coral bits all over the country to other people. (I haven’t shipped a coral in nearly 3 years lol)

Then they generally move on.

Once people have gotten the tank talk once, they generally never even look at it again.

Two people actually have asked in depth questions about water parameters, asked about testing regiments, were interested in the concept of dosing, skimming, and auto topoff (genuinely interested). One is a good friend who just takes an interest in my hobbies, another was a physician with an especially technical/curious mind
