I’ve had this BTA for about 10 days and it was doing fine until I had to dose my tanks with some meds to try and save a fish I bought at the same time (in the display).

It’s now been closed up in a ball for 2 days. When should I consider it dead and remove it from the tank ? I’ll be using carbon and doing WC in a few days, but still have one round of meds to do in a week, so it might just not make it.

Thank you

At first I was dosing Polyp Lab Medic. Then I tried Ruby Reef rally pro (that I got frozen and the cie said it wouldn’t work but wouldn’t hurt anything to try). Now I did my first dose of Prazipro (not sure if this one was frozen or not during shipping. It’s a 1 ounce bottle).

There was carbon in between those and sometimes a 1-2 day break.

I know this is not ideal but my circumstances are particular. This has been discussed in other threads also.

Pic? There's a large difference between a balled up nem and one I'd consider to be dying.

Not sure what you are treating for but prazi is for different illnesses then the other 2.

Do you have a bunch of invert death in the tank like snails or crabs? If not there is still hope for the anemone too.

I don’t know what I am treating either. It’s been discussed with reef medics and it remained a mystery disease. It killed one tang before and this one is exhibiting the same symptoms and this time I had the time to import medications but unfortunately not the best to have shipped in Canada in winter…

I have lots and lots of snails, hermit crabs, shrimps and I haven’t seen a single death. Mind you there are so many empty shells in the tank it’s hard to tell. But cleaner shrimp and peppermint are still alive for sure.

Mine does this after ingesting a piece of food and occasionally in the morning.
Too much light will also cause this and hiding.
Moderate light and flow is a must

I don’t know how much par I have but I don’t think it’s too much since it’s sitting in the third bottom part of the tank.

Not bad-
Take violet to 65 and Uv to 80 and blue to 80. Cool white to 15 and see how nem responds. Assure flow is moderate also

Done. We’ll see how it goes. I can always go back to the previous one.

There is more flow since running the UV. I’ll try and change the outlet direction. It might be a coincidence but the BTA was okay before the UV.

@vetteguy53081 but why isn’t moving somewhere if it’s not happy ? It moved into this hole and just stayed there and closed up.

My guess is that it's not happy with the meds you've been applying. As for the fish, creating a post for them in the disease thread will get it sorted out.

Yeah, that’s what I think too. Just hoping there is a quick fix. I tested a few parameters and nitrates are going down (as usual) so I dosed a little nitrate and phosphate.

The threads have been opened in the disease section but there was no definite conclusion. We don’t know what it is.

Definitely not taking a stab at it if Jay Hemdal or Vetteguy can't sort it out. As for the meds, carbon will help. I believe you're already doing that though. Once a nem is dying, there's no mistaking it. Yours is just unhappy.

I was waiting until tomorrow to put carbon in. Jay says the prazipro is active 72 hrs and 3 days will be tomorrow.

Changing your lights was very likely Completely Unnecessary and poor advice given the circumstances.

You've dosed multiple medications into the water, and your anenome is responding to those.. Not the Lights....

This animal could stay in this position for Weeks until the water quality clears and it feels comfortable again.

As stated above, the nem has closed in on itself, to protect itself.

You’re probably right. The changes were subtle though or I wouldn’t have done it.

I liked the tone better before so I’ll probably go back anyways. Thanks.

Your max usage was 29W before. You probably could have Tripled that, and still not been over exposing the BTA to light.
