I've been seeing a lot of recent posts about people using AFR for their tanks, so it got me thinking, "How is everyone managing their nutrients in their tanks?" Are you using two-part dosing or feeding more, or are you using AFR for your tank? Let's see how YOU manage your tank's chemical/nutrient levels! Photo Credit: @STEEZY

might be talking two totally different things:
AFR is a water chemistry thing to
manage water chemistry for metabolic purposes (calcium et)
Whereas “nutrients”
is a sorta broader/looser term
applied both to metabolic waste and pollutants et et

Anyway I use mostly AFR for
all/ca/mg and for nitrogen and phosphate control I’m using Carbon dosing along with macro algae and a skimmer

I’m using AFR as well! It has done wonders for my tank!

3ml of NOPOX daily for me as I don't have space for a refugium in my sump, it keeps my nutrients around 10 nitrates and 0.03 phosphate.

I feed about 2 - 3 times a day for my fish.

20ml Reef Energy AB+ almost every day, with some supplements.

Monday w/ Phyto 5ml
Tuesday w/ Zooplankton 5ml
Wednesday w/ Powder coral food
Thursday w/ Fauna Marin MIN S 2 - 3 drops.

Then I don't add anything on the weekends haha.

24/7 Skimming

Skimmer for nutrients and coral. They keep it so well that I don't have no3. Building my fish suppy and feeding heavy.

AFR is traces/calcium/alkalinity.
So I'm confused on the title of the thread. I would say I have a calcium reactor and daily AWC. I only just started dosing some trace but the bottle doesn't say what's in it. It's IO starter or something like that. Got it free and thought, eh, I'll give it a try.

nutrient/waste export:
skimmer
chaeto rx
bagged siporax/matrix mix in sump for bio support
couple 11oz bags of chemi pure OG every couple months

Working on this in my build now. I'll for sure be using a roller filter and protein skimmer. Still deciding what else might be needed.

In my large tank I manually dose two part for alk and calcium.
Socks and an ATS is all run for nutrients. No skimmer NO3 hangs around 10 and PO4 0.25 - 0.4ish. Everything is happy so I let it roll.

In my stick tank I use AFR and have been very happy with it. Frags have really taken off since I started it but it could be tank maturity as well since I started at the one year mark. I run a reef mat as my only filtration. No skimmer. I was dosing bacto balance but stopped as N and P were testing 0 more often than I'm comfortable with.

I have a third smaller tank that houses a clarkii and blue haddoni along with a few sps and some gsp. I manually dose a little AFR. I was dosing bacto balance on this one but recently stopped for the same reasons mentioned above. Filtration is a sock and ATS no skimmer.

I used to use ESV 2 parts long ago, but I am using it again because it has performed well in the past.
Export Control: skimmer, macro, live phyto on a continuous dosing pump. Although my tank is relatively young now, I still have to dose phosphates and nitrates to keep them from going to zero. Also, I just ordered some mangroves from Alge Barn (not sure how much they will take out, if any - it's more an aesthetic thing)
