I’ve been reefing for 2 years and finally bought some Hanna testers. I’m using Reef Crystals and mixing it to 1.026 which should yield 455 ppm calcium. Out of curiosity I used my Hanna tester on a new batch of saltwater and it showed the calcium level at 515ppm @ 1.026. I don’t believe it was user error on the tester. I tested it 3 times and my results were 510/515/520. I’m trying to keep my tank at 440ppm. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just dose more soda ash until my calcium levels come down? My current dkh is 8.

Hoe long did you let the salt water mix for before testing?

Some mixes say to wait a certain period of time before use.

Did you stir the dry salt ? I always mix up the dry before making fresh salt water.

There is also room for variance with the levels In each different brand.

I'm not sure what each manufacturer's % of acceptance is but the number won't match perfectly every time.

I mixed it and waited about 18 hours.
