Hey guys and gals! I wanted to create a thread today and give you the opportunity to support a great cause! I was fortunate enough in April to meet Joe Moynihan who is the Supervisor of Aquariums at Seaworld in Orlando Florida and get a first hand look at the good that is being done for Sea Turtles. At the time Joe also introduced me to the Jenny Albert Sea Turtle Foundation and right then I knew that we could help this wonderful foundation. Joe is also a member here at R2R btw.
The Jenny Albert Sea Turtle Foundation is a non profit organization and could use our help. The Jenny Albert Sea Turtle Foundation is a non profit 501(c)(3) dedicated to preserving sea turtles and their environment by providing support and funding for rehabilitation, research, education and conservation efforts
Here are just a few things that the foundation does.
- They send ill or under privileged kids to animal summer camps
- Buy equipment to help under funded rescue programs
- Educate kids about the environment
- Beach Cleanup Events
- Preserve Sea Turtles and their environment by providing support for rehabilitation, research, education and conservation efforts.
Here is a little bit about Jenny.
Jennifer Albert grew up in Broad Channel, New York with her sister and mother who affectionately called her “my flower.” From an early age Jenny had a love for all animals; at home they had 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a guinea pig named Tilly. She enjoyed horseback riding and jumping and took lessons from the age of 4 to well into her teenage years. Jenny also took dance lessons in ballet, tap, and jazz for 8 years. She loved bowling, roller skating, music, and spending time with family and friends. She devoted herself to those around her, her dog Isabelle and her work.
Jenny graduated from Dowling College in Oakdale, New York. She majored in both Marine Biology and Applied Mathematics. She decided to move to Orlando, Florida in search of a career working with animals. Her dream came true in 1998 when she was hired at SeaWorld Orlando. This is where her legacy truly began; Jenny put all of her heart and soul into fighting for and elevating the importance of Sea Turtle rehabilitation. Her fierce love for sea turtles was both powerful and infectious, she had a way about her that was truly unique.
During her 12 year career with SeaWorld, Jenny helped to rescue and rehabilitate over 900 sea turtles. She was a great mentor, Jenny did not manager her coworkers, she led by example providing a positive environment to develop not only strong sea turtle rehab specialists, but talented professionals. She spent many long days and nights caring for sick and injured turtles. She dedicated her life to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sea turtles.
Jenny had many struggles with her health but never let that stop her from living her life. She was exceptionally strong and dealt with each health setback with dignity and grace. She never let anyone know how much she was suffering, Jenny never once complained. She possessed an inner strength that is unparalleled, she knew her time was limited and made the most of it. Jenny was one of the most caring individuals but she was also tough as nails. She was a true New Yorker at heart.
Jenny was the best storyteller and always had a smile on her face. She was a very caring and giving person, a true inspiration to those she touched. She was the best daughter, sister, and best friend anyone could ever ask for and she is truly missed but never forgotten. We will take care of your turtles, Jenny. Rest in peace!!
