I see it as well. Looks like debris to me, but it's weird that it's on him like that. It might be a good idea to do a freshwater dip and see if it comes off in that. It could give us a clue as to what it is as well.

Honestly it could be poo/debris. I had just transferred him and he was laying on his side in the corner where stuff collected.

Has he moved around since the picture was taken? Is the mystery - debris- gross stuff gone?

Still there and looks like some type of bacteria. You can see a little discolored circle right near it. Btw it's a yellow belly blue tang and has been very healthy.

Could he have gotten stung by a nem or coral when you caught him? Or nicked himself on a rock? Might not be a bad idea to dose an antibiotic (ex. Kanaplex) - but do increase gas exchange to compensate for oxygen depletion.

Ok yeah. I see it. That doesn't look good Rev. I agree that it would probably be a good idea to run antibiotics for him. No reason to take chances with something like this. 10 days or longer if needed to clear it up. If it doesn't improve - or especially if it gets worse- you can add furan 2 to the mix.

Yes sir. that would be fine, just be sure to go the whole ten days even if the hippo looks better on day two.

Ok thank you! I'll make sure the powerhead is at the top churning water!

Oh and do I just continue the TTM and dose the tanks as I move the fish?

Noticed a bunch of sand like grains in the tank I cleaned out yesterday and thought it was from where I transferred them from the main tank. But today there are a bunch more in the new TTM tank. What might they be? They are like sand grains except larger.

I'm really not sure what this is, but I get the same exact thing in the bare-bottom tanks at the store. I figure it's partially poo bits and general "debris". It's almost like all the fish have dandruff and shed it constantly in the tank. Weird right?
