well sadly i ended up losing mine a few months after I got it. Probably wont try it again
That's too bad. Mine has been closed up for two weeks now so I fear it may also be on a death spiral. I have 4 other Goni frags in the tank and those are doing great. Now I understand why UC Amazeballs is so expensive

I am friends with a well known vendor on this forum with arguably some of the nicest and most unique corals available. I’ll put their stuff up against anyone.

Anyways. I was recently asking about getting some gonipora and he sent me pics of some nice ones he has. I asked hey by chance do you have amazeballs? He scoffed and said something along the lines of “yea I got some but it barely opens and never grows, waste of money”

I know many out there have success with it, but many do not. And I read over and over again that all Goni in a system are fine except the amazeballs. Maybe there are good strains and rougher strains. Who knows. But I have a professional coral dealer with thousands of gallons of systems and some corals that are thousands of dollars each, telling me, he can’t figure them out and has trouble with them also.

Finicky, sensitive . Two words that describe Amazeballs . I’ve had two . First was doing great until it wasn’t . Second I’ve had for about 10 months. I’d say it’s mostly happy but, yeah slow grower.

Quite the problematic Goni, it seems it may be grown in a different type of system and nutrient level to survive. I’m having the same issue right now. Just closed up, while all other goni’s are doing well

I’m starting to think that the Amazeballs are especially susceptible to bacterial infections. I had one do great for about a year….then started to decline to near nothing. Then it got knocked loose by a snail or something…..and fell behind the rocks….so, I gave up on it. This was back in January.

Come last March, I was resetting that portion of the reef…..and when I removed some rock, there was a tiny speck of orange. I had given up on it when it fell behind the rocks.

I couldn’t believe that it was still living….although a bit bleached. Then I remembered that I did an Oxolinic Acid treatment in mid-January due to an STN issue. I’m guessing that treatment might have saved it since nothing else had changed.

Fast forward to today….and it is recovering and growing well again. It is pictured here behind my Moorish Idol.

The Amazeballs is my favorite coral and when I purchased mine i did Bi weekly water changes and quickly started weekly water changes when I saw my amazeballs looking a bit better afterwards. I have scoured the internet for information on Gonioporas and attempted to apply the findings. When I first saw my amazeballs Dying. I quickly found Iodide Iron and manganese went to zero on a daily according to many so I purchased those elements and dosed them every other day and like a miracle the amazeballs came right back from deaths door. After researching more on this topic it seems Flouride, boron, molybdenum, rubidium, chromium cobalt, selenium, iron, manganese, barium, bromine, copper, iodide, zinc, nickel are all elements that go to zero daily according to most ICP tests. I dose iodide and manganese every other day and added a trace elements twice a week and the Results have been great so far. I am currently testing daily water changes like 1-5 gallons to see if these trace elements can be completely replaced with just WC.
