Hello everyone,

I’m hoping you guys can give me some ideas/suggestions on options for raising some deficient major/minor elements from my last ICP test. I have highlighted the areas I would like some assistance with in red. Some these are based on the "reef moonshiners" program calculations which I am not/do not necessarily follow, but I enjoyed the simplicity of their calculator and have heard good things about the regimine. However given how small some of these corrections are, I'm hesitant about buying $250 worth of additives ( ) when I'm sure they can be DIY'ed or obtained elsewhere. I have inbound some potassium chloride and reef iodide to correct K and I, what can I do to help raise the other elements to their correct levels? Anything else that you see that may need some tweaks? I realize salinity is a bit high, I'll bring that down shortly. Thank you all very much!

Well this was a dumb post, essentially right after I found that the tropic marin K+ and A- additives have essentially everything that I needed, albeit not in the exact quantities the RM method suggests, which I am fine with. I am going to dose the recommended values for a few weeks then send off another ICP test to see where things land.

Which company are we talking about here?

What is the 35 ppt column supposed to be?

IMO, the bromine and strontium are quite close to NSW levels and I wouldn’t focus on them.

The legend himself! Thanks for stopping by Sir.

As for which company, I'm assuming you mean which ICP test? This was an ATI ICP-OES run. Let me know if I misunderstood the question there.

Columns above are: actual value | recommended value | deviation from recommended value

Thanks for the advice on the Br & Sr. I've picked up some Seachem iodide, some potassium chloride, tropic marin K+ and A-

Pro-Coral K+ Trace 1 Contains:

  • Barium
  • Boron
  • Chrome
  • Cobalt
  • Iron
  • Copper
  • Manganese
  • Nickel
  • Strontium
  • Zinc
Pro-Coral A- Trace 2 Contains:

  • Bromine
  • Fluorine
  • Iodine
  • Lithium
  • Molybdenum
  • Selenium
  • Vanadium
So with those 4 I believe I'll be in a good spot and wont have to manually "eye dropper" in 6 different solutions each day.

Thanks. :)

That sounds like a reasonable plan.

Magnesium seems quite high. Have you been dosing any?

Yeah, mag is a bit higher than expected, my last salifert test showed ~1750. I've been dosing BRS's mag supplement for years (along with their Ca and Alk) but more recently I've had some sandbed algal issues that I couldn't really pin down, and at least back in the day it was thought high mag would help inhibit algae growth, so I figured why not (as I don't believe it has any adverse effects at these levels) but spoiler alert, it hasn't helped. :)
