Long time lurker on these topics but I need some advice. 60 gallon mixed reef, up and running for almost 2.5 months. I got about 4 pieces of live rock to seed the rest of my dry rock from a local reefer and boy it was a mistake. Introduced bubble algae, then hair algae (maybe turf?), and then a little bit of red slime and that would cover small parts of the sand at times and now some strange clear mucous like substance. Ive aggressively manually removed a lot of hair and bubble algae, as well as red slime I see. I also noticed in the refugium with the Chaeto that it used to get this slimy, reddish/yellowish goo in the corner. Makes it sound like Dino’s based off my reading but it’s been a week or two and I don’t really see much outside of these little bubbles in the picture. I’ve also noticed less red spots on the sand.

My Nitrates and Phosphates are so low they’re almost zero. I feed 3 times a day and my coral and fish seem healthy. Water is pretty clear. Last time I will ever be seeding with live rock.

I’d rather not use chemicals. I’m considering maybe a UV sterilizer and continue manually removing. I run carbon and that’s it for now until I get the numbers up.

Can you help me diagnose the things you see in these pictures? Open to ideas. I’ve never dealt with outbreaks like this in the hobby before, iguess I was lucky. Thanks guys!

Best way to verify is under the view of microscope. This looks like turf algae in which its best to remove rock and scrub with firm toothbrush or automotive detail brush and peroxide. To help with control thereafter, add pitho crabs, chiton snails, ninja star snails and even pencil urchins.
