I was planning on getting the same treasure chest from TBS but the 75$ shipping made me change my mind lol, did the sand and rocks have any copepods or other critters?Hello everyone! I've been wanting to start a reef tank for years and years, I joined R2R back in 2017 apparently, but I remember nerding out on reef tanks years before that, I remember when I was first researching what to get metal halides and wet/dry filters were the way to go, so a lot has changed in the time I've been wanting to start.
I started planning out a 20ish gallon nano setup and analysis paralysis got the better of me, so I just decided to go with the Hello Reef kit. I'm planning on deviating from their recipe a little because I already bought a Pico treasure chest from Tampa Bay Saltwater to seed the sand and rocks with.
Looking forward to starting a nano build thread shortly!
I have not received them yet. Yes, the $75 shipping is a shock! We'll see how it goes on the pod front, but I still intend to buy pods and phyto from one of the online vendors to seed the tank in addition to the rock/sand. Also, I live a couple of miles from the sea, so I'm planning on getting a marine fishing license which allows you to harvest sea weed, which have loads and loads of pods on them.I was planning on getting the same treasure chest from TBS but the 75$ shipping made me change my mind lol, did the sand and rocks have any copepods or other critters?

I'm afraid there's nothing you can collect in Ventura, even with the correct permit which is not a commercial fishing license, that will survive in tropical temperature reef tank.I have not received them yet. There's several species of macro-algae that are commonly sold for tropical temperature tanks that are readily available. I have seen them with my own eyes. Pods are also tolerant of a wide range of temperatures.I'm afraid there's nothing you can collect in Ventura, even with the correct permit which is not a commercial fishing license, that will survive in tropical temperature reef tank.

Also, you can collect from the shore with a marine endorsement on a fishing license. There is a lot of misconceptions about this going around, so let's just look at what the state of California has to say about this:I'm afraid there's nothing you can collect in Ventura, even with the correct permit which is not a commercial fishing license, that will survive in tropical temperature reef tank.
