hey guys any advice would be extremely helpful right now and im hoping I can fix this problem. I picked up my refractometer that I treat like its made of gold and went to take a measurement on my new tank im setting up and the blue line inside was running crooked from the spec gravity side upwards slightly toward the salinity side. I total;ly freaked out because I just broke the bank on the new setup and have no money to get a new one PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME GET THIS THING FIXED Thanks for any help as always. Sounds like the prism or the reticle is misaligned. I don't know how to repair the instrument but perhaps you can contact the manufacturer.

I don't think that using Tap water would affect that......your corals are a different story lol but you prob know that

Some people use tap water, with mixed results. Honestly depends on your water. Eventually the heavy metals will build up to a point of saturation and start to effect inverts and fish.

You can find manufacturer contact info by finding it first on amazon...after looking at a few refractometers I think all of them are made by the same company because they all look the exact same. The atc stands for automatic temperature c-word, but I'm willing to bet its the same one bulkreef supply sells, try and contact them if you're having trouble finding the manufacturer.

If I'm not mistaken, water isn't supposed to get inside the things anyway...so as long as you wipe it clean, it wouldn't matter if you put muddy water on it.

yea you can close this thread bro I found an exact duplicate of mine that I paid 65 bucks for on ebay and I paid 28.44 for a brand new one it will be here on Wednesday :) sucks I had to buy a new one but at least it wasn't another 65 bucks :) everything is coming together on my new project thanks to tank buy from Torq and a little patience and luck of my own plus advice from all the great members of ETRC pics will follow when this bad boy is up in full affect....a piece of advice to those wanting massive fow on maybe an sps tank....sump pumps are way cheaer and have better flow if you buy utility water pumps from Home depot :) I bought mine for 90 bucks and its doin 1280 GPH at 3.5 ft of head :) :) they are liquid cooled and made of thermoplastic so they don't corrode either so far no problems
