Hey everyone! I just got a big beautiful Australian harlequin tusk for my FOWLR tank. She is every bit of 7 inches if not a little larger. System has been running for two years now. I have two questions/concerns. There is still traces of copper power from when I did a in tank treatment. It is roughly reading at .21 with the Hanna checker. Will this be ok for the tusk? My other question is it normal for this species to sit around in the corners of the tank and or under rocks for periods of time throughout the day? Thank you in advance!

Hi GS,
Your copper level is high but fortunately the Tusks handle it well. Try to reduce the levels. Hide is normal behavior for a tusk especially when they are getting accustomed to their new surrounding. Beautiful fish go luck

Thank you! I would love an emp. But I’ve always had a thing for the tusk.

it was a hard choice for sure. but a juvi emp. came available from my fish QT guy so jumped on it.

for the copper a WC and some good carbon would help bring it down.

Activated carbon filters remove copper through adsorption, where copper ions bind to the porous surface of the activated carbon. The extensive surface area and high porosity of activated carbon allow it to trap and hold copper particles effectively.

Your Aussie Tusk is beautiful! There is no questioning if it is an Aussie. I went through five Harlequin Tusks over two years. Three Indos and two Aussies. I've never kept one alive for longer than two months. Mostly neurological issues from the cyanide. I lost one Aussie because it jumped out and another because of marine velvet that took out the whole tank. I look forward to giving it another try soon.

Thank you so much!! Here’s a recent picture I got of her and so far she is doing great! I’m sorry to hear you’ve had struggles with them as well. Such a beautiful fish to lose for reasons out of our control.
