Update:
  • I fed the Lineatus tonight again, he didn't go after it himself. I held him in my hands, and he ate probably 6-7 mysis again, so at least he seems to be inclined to eat. One thing I noticed is that he doesn't like to be upright now. Maybe the infection in his swimming bladder hurts when he's upright? I have to fed him while holding him upside down. haha.

  • I also crushed up a B-12 tablet, disolved it in saltwater, and poured it in the sump on the return pump.

  • I got my hospital tank setup tonight, and wanted to put the Lineatus in, but wanted to be sure the heater will maintain a steady temp before I put him in and it get too cold or hot. If its stable tomorrow at a temp I want, I'll move him into that tank. I used 15-17 gal of tank water, with a few gal of new salt water. Tank is a 20H, with an old Marineland Emperor HOB and a small Stealth heater. The HOB moves some good water, so I didn't put a powerhead in it for now, there is only filter floss in the HOB for right now. I also put in a Seachem Ammonia Alert in there. I have some PC lights that I can put on the tank as well.

Anthony, Bruce said he didn't have anything with mixed furans meds. I got the Focus from him, and I'll try to introduce that tomorrow when the Lineatus goes in the new tank. I'm probably going to call Seachem tomorrow to make sure I dose it correctly. It says use a 5:1 ratio with other meds. How do I do that when the Prazi is liquid and the Focus is powder :)

Thanks for all your help so far.

Man, I've spent more on meds for this fish than it would cost to buy another, but its worth it :) I just overnighted 2 x "Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Furan-2 Medication - 10ct Powder Packets" and overnighted some SeaChem KanaPlex.

After talking to Seachem Labs, they said the Focus was more of a binder to bind other meds to food. She recommended I try the KanaPlex, however, I'll be trying the Furan-2 first, since it has both nitrofurantoin and furazolidone. Will keep you up to date on how he's doing and progress.

I put the Lineatus Fairy in the hospital tank, and put 1 tsp of PraziPro in it. I figured it can't hurt to have him in there an extra day with Prazi I guess. The other meds and food that Anthony suggested will be here tomorrow.

Anthony, should I put both the Furans-2 in the tank, AND feed him those pellets that you suggested above? I don't want to overdose him on the meds.

Sorry man, stinks to have an awesome fish like that, especially one you have dropped some coin on have issues.

I shipped a navarchus angelfish to wisconsin back from my stay in LA. Due to some pretty stupid requirements by the airlines when I got to milwaukee the water had to have been in the low 60's. The fish was laying on its side at the surface. I felt terrible. And not because of the wasted money (Even shipped the fish was $60 cheaper than anywhere in wisconsin)...it was just that you killed an animal that was caught from the wild.

Im glad to see that you are dedicating yourself to the recovery of this animal, and I am thinking positive thoughts for you.

Update: With the Lineatus in the new tank, I held him again and he ate 6-8 mysis again. He's just chilling in the bottom of the tank upside down, and def notices me when I get close, as his little eyes start moving around. haha.

I'm thinking about putting a little clown fish thats in my frag tank in with him so he'll see some swimming activity in there and won't be lonely :)

Thanks man, I'm truly hoping this will turn out to be a great thread and hopefully he comes around at the end. I hope that it inspires others to treat and quarantine their tanks. I'm gonna get some pics of the tank and him chillin' at the bottom. Hopefully at the end of the thread, I'll have pics of him swimming like everybody else :)

Much respect for the continued efforts to save this fish. I will treat every fish the same as if it were the most expensive fish i ever purchased even if it is not and really enjoy hearing that fellow reefers are doing everything possible to conserve and properly handle the precious reef creatures we enjoy in our aquariums. Anthony Calfo is a source of superior experience and information and we are lucky to have his input here and i agree hands down with his approach and recommendations. I am a reefer with 20+ years experience and now run a professional aquarium service as my choice of career. I will try all medications possible (1 at a time and mostly Seachem products and nitroferozone) as many 3 or 4 before i get the proper result. I do my best to conserve my livestock and most times end up with a positive result if i am able to keep water quality high while medicating. I will often use a medication for 2 or 3 days and water change use carbon for 12 hours and change medications if needed. If you are not successful you know that you did everything possible to create a better outcome for the fish. Have faith and you likely will save the fish and if not this fish your better understanding of medicating fish will pay off huge in the long run for you and the precious live stock you hold dear. Good luck my friend. You are in good hands with Anthonys' advice, thanks Anthony a hat tip to you my friend for the in depth advice to us all.

Update: I added two packets of Furan-2 to the tank, so we'll see how it works. One thing I noticed today was that his fish poop looks weird, like he's not completely digesting the food, after being in there for a night with PraziPro. I also saw him spitting up something that looked like a small white strand.

After a day of being in with Furan-2, he's still doing ok. He ate again today, about the same amount as he has the last few days.

So far so good, he's still fighting it seems. Second dose of Furan-2 at 11am tomorrow.

Update: After day two in Furan-2, with the second dose in there, he seems to be in better spirits, and was semi-swimming around, still upside down though. He ate well twice today, mysis, and I disolved a B-12 tablet for his quarantine tank just a few minutes ago.

I believe tomorrows schedule includes a 25 percent water change with carbon, and then he'll get another two doses of the Furan-2, for a total of four.

Thanks.

Checked on him this morning, he's looking the same, still upside down, but seems to be wanting to swim around more than he has. I did see him about mid way up the tank yesterday, so he's either getting better or he was flapping away to get up there, haha After looking at the directions, he'll get a 25 percent water change today, and then the 3rd dose of Furan-2. Then the fourth dose tomorrow.

After the Furan-2 dosing, I'll be moving to using SeaChem KanaPlex medication if he's still not swimming like normal.

I did get the medicated food that Anthony mentioned above, but they are big, so I'm going to try to cut them up into manageable pieces for him to eat.

Lineatus got the third dose of Furan-2 today, and he looking better everyday. Tonight when I was feeding him, he was swimming around the tank quite a bit, and was very active. He's still swimming around upside down, but seems to want to move around a lot more. He even swam up to the top of the tank while I was down there.

Fourth and last dose of Furan-2 tomorrow morning. Keeping my hopes up...looks like he's a fighter :)

Thanks guys. He's still eating well when I hold him, and he is definitely wanting and trying to swim around a lot more.

Tomorrow I'm going to do a 25 percent water change, add carbon to the AquaClear 70, and let him chill for a day or two. Once it clears up, I'll start him on the KanaPlex medicine next.

Lineatus is still swimming around a lot, but still upside down. He's definitely in better spirits after the Furan-2. Will try to get a vid of him later.
