I’ve had two hammers in my tank for a week and the last couple of days they’re not opening up as much as before.

I’m currently trying to lower my phos and put some seachem phosguard in the tank on Saturday.

The phos was 0.24 and is now 0.14. Could that be why the hammers aren't as happy?. Should I continue with the phosguard or take it out?

that would not be the reason for them closing up, continue treatment as necessary and keep an eye on them, i’ve had my hammers open half way for a few days and then return to normal several times.

it may be worth posting all of your parameters here though.

Personally I doubt its related to the phosphate. Without knowing anything about your tank, I would test and eliminate all other possibilities

Just to be clear they’re still open just not as much as before. The phosphate is now 0.14 but the rest are accurate as of Sunday

The alk was low on Sunday, what it the level today? Lets see the consumption.

Alk is so much more important than phosphate.

I would suggest the low alk is bothering the hammers more than the phosphate level

Please can you tell me what testing apparatus do you use?

All mine are Red Sea so I write them down after each test. But all yours look electronic/computerised. Can you clarify what system you use please?

Thank you!

I use a mixture of Red Sea and Hanna and manually put them into this app called “pocket marine”

So today one of my hammers looks fine but the other is shrunken. Both were added on the same day. These are my parameters @VintageReefer apologies for the very long delay in replying to you but I’ve had Covid. I’m using KH Buffer to try raise the Alk.
