GSP help

About 2 weeks ago I got my first coral frags, I dipped and acclimated and everything was fine to begin with!

As of now, my toadstool, zoanthid, and mushroom are doing well. As of Wed, my GSP has not opened.. I moved it tonight into a higher flow area and I used a baster to blast the base. Some of the purple tissue is flaking which I noticed with the blasting... Should I be concerned? What else do you suggest?

Nitrates are about 20 ppm and I haven't checked Alk or pH in a little while but I'm assuming they're okay as everything else is looking good..

I'm not a GSP expert, but that'll help the pros here! All I know is my GSP can take some time to come out after an event like moving its home.

GSP is pretty resilient. Your nitrates may be low causing it not to open but I really wouldn’t worry about it. Good lighting, good flow, and slightly dirty water will make it explode. Before you know it your tank will be covered with it!

Should I be concerned about it flaking and is it me or is it starting to lose color? And right now I have it centered in the tank with my lights at peak at about 40% blue/violet with no whites, right below the return

Would you suggest adding more reef chili? What I've been using.. I was concerned my nutrients might be too high! And don't want to impede the other corals

Didn't add food but tried moving it in the tank, it's a bit higher underneath the return filter, and is getting what I think a decent flow as it currents from the back left to front right of tank

Are you testing for nitrates? If so, just don’t go above 10ppm. If not make sure you have good export methods to control excess nitrates…

Have you tried any carbon? I believe toadstools are notorious at starting chemical warfare. Maybe that’s why the GSP is closed up.

My gsp has thrived in nitrate over 100. It's a vile weed that cannot be stopped.

Agreed…they can tolerate a lot of conditions including very high nitrates. I do feel that the higher the nitrates the faster it spreads so IMO keeping nitrates on the medium-low end should help curb an invasion.

Is there any type of algae growning on it? I just had this battle with mine as algae took it over but it bounced back and is bigger and fuller now. The purple flake is dead tissue mine did this as well when I'd turkey baste algae off can't even tell it ever did it now. It's a pretty adaptable coral I'd leave it and let it do it thing it will most likely bounce back

My nitrates are usually around 30 ppm and my GSP is thriving. Every time you move it or do anything with it you will reset the sulk timer back to 0.

I put mine on the top of a tall rock because I thought it would constrain it, but it grew 'fingers' and it now looks like an umbrella

This could hurt you in the long run though. I would personally continue to feed and adjust the amount, as well as do a water change. Skipping feeding and water changes would go against future stability. Just my .02 Plus, soon enough the gsp will have you rethinking your purchase

Mine did the same, but on the sand bed… darn stuff won’t stay put!

My gsp done the same thing when I moved the tank . It Just wouldn't open started to flake, lost it's colour and just melted away . I'm glad tho because they are a pita.
