Hey Guys just wanted to share photos of this new banana grail I got from a new vendor in PA called Rosas reef and it is gorgeous (I have several lineaged HG over the years and this one is up there in beauty)
On a side note , I was at RAP New York several weeks ago , I bought around a dozen frags all of them made it (except one) which was the frag I was MOST Careful with
It was a lineaged HG torch which I bought from a vendor and had them hold it in their tank until I was leaving (so I could go straight home lol 20 minute drive) as it was the most expensive frag I bought
As soon as I got home and opened the bag (about 20 minutes later) the torch was full of white mucus (for those of you who have seen BJD or other similar pathogenic diseases you know lots of mucus on torch is not a good sign)
The torch didn’t make it , it never even really opened , despite a super stable system (alk fluctuates no more than 0.2 Dkh per day) mature fully coralline grown system
this is why I bought this new banana torch to replace the one from RAP and it is super healthy - opened within 5-10 minutes, probably fasted fully opened shipped torch in a while I have seen that was HG
Couldn’t be happier with the new one (the original vendor would not replace the sick torch I received at rap) I was very surprised about this as I was a return customer and planning on spending another few thousand at their store to help stock my new system
They blamed me for the torches demise (even though it was sick from the first minute I received it) even though I documented everything, how it never opened , how it melted with brown jelly over the course of a few days, how ever other euphyllia in the system is frowning and splitting , how this was the only frag I got from rap that was sick (I even sent the vendor my apex screen shots which showed no irregularities and pretty spot on parameters calc 450 mag 1350 nitrate alk 8 ph 8-8.3 , nitrate 8 phos 0.06 etc )
Basically they sold me a sick frag and would not replace it or give a guarantee (I guess I should have asked about guarantees before I bought it) thought it was implied
Anyway when I told this vendor that I would make a review online they threatened me - so I will NOT name them
So basically the reason for this post is to show the good and the bad of our hobby and photos of this gorgeous torch which is a newer variant (wasn’t around 20 years ago when I first got started in this hobby to my knowledge)
This amazing small and relatively unknown vendor mailed me a gorgeous torch 10 out of 10 perfectly packaged in a specimen cup no issues - couldn’t be happier , on the other hand a very well known mid size vendor who has been around for decades sold me a sick frag, would not replace it even though I was planning to go spend more $$$ at their store (even though I told them any similar torch would be ok-doesn’t need to be the exact same one,) was a return customer and worse yet threatened me when I explained to them how I was upset about the sick torch and may write a review
(Btw this is the first time a vendor has not replaced a sick frag or has not has a DOA or guarantee that I have come across since I got back into this hobby a few years ago , and I have purchased from over 2 dozen vendors , also for the most part there was only 1 other DOA or sick frag I received so I guess I wouldn’t really know how many had DOA but when I got something from TSA that didn’t make it they sent a new one right away - amazing customer service) think I have at least 2 dozen frags from TSA growing out right now
Back in the day when I first got into this hobby it was more like the Wild West - when I re entered the hobby a few years ago wow did times change - but still have to be careful
