Good morning
Spent the day with my nephew who is 19 now. He has Asperger's. It was interesting. He likes history and I have lots of old stuff. No one has bothered to help him get a life.
Very sad story.
My mom was an admin. of a group home of high functioning disabled. Need to keep them busy. Does he read? Allen Eckard Frontiersman is a good series on American History, Easy read
Pharaoh and Birds of Prey by Wilbur Smith are good historical fiction , and are fun reads

I don't think he reads. He has a huge collection of videos saved on his phone from some sites he belongs to. He is trying to get his High school diploma.
Not to speak harshly of them but his parents have had issues with themselves, each other and several really bad breaks in life. He never had a chance.
Both his parents are accomplished teachers. They have clue how to be parents. There is a video on YouTube by his mother for winning the NEA Foundation's Awards for Teaching Excellence.
I have put some history into his hands by passing some family things to him. He dwells on the past. I am trying to convince him to get a new circle of friends and that his future is up to him and no one else.
He may sell them to buy drugs. I don't know. He tends to tell you everything which is good but what came out scared the heck out of me.

I gave him a small collection of foreign currency I had with several nice pieces from 1906- 1939.

I went through this with my son. He had viral meningitis when he was 3 and he was forever different. Your child is your child. The first thing you have to do is get it straight in your head. I don't think Chase's parents ever did that. We went through all the "special needs" stuff at school, The stigmatization, and the "Discipline problems" with Grant. We got him through college and he has a job, a new house and a baby on the way. He is a teacher too. He works at it because he went through the crap these kids are subjected to.
But it is much easier to undo damage at the time it occurs than after scars are formed for over 19 years.

It was a day spent discussing Oxycontin and drug prices on the street and the rise and fall of the Ottoman empire. He likes dogs and I have several. Lucky slept on his lap which impressed him. He tries to shock you. I cant be shocked by that stuff. I feel like there is always a way out but he has to find it himself and want it. I can only help.

That's what all the Saint's say.........

Ask my wife and I think you will get a dissenting opinion.

I put up some lights in the fish room. 1 60watt equivalent LED wasn't getting it. I any slowly bending the flex PVC to my will. I only blacked one eye with it springing back into my face.

Good Morning. What a tough day yesterday. It was hard to get up today. Our friends and I spent the day in a deserted lagoon, floating on noodles behind my boat like tea bags tethered to a rope so the shrimp cocktail and Pina Colada's wouldn't float away while listening to oldies. Then we came home and went into the pool where we floated on noodles waiting for the poolside bar be cue to be cooked while sipping drinks (in plastic bottles of course, no glass allowed near the pool)
Then they set up a large movie screen and had a poolside movie that I wanted to see, Captain Marvel. They gave us all the free candy, cake and drinks we wanted.
After that we came to my house and had drinks on the back deck facing the Long Island Sound.

I hate days like that and now I have to do it all over again.
This retirement is really tough.

Good morning!

Well said! And good job being there. Hope it works out. I have daughter with a TBI. Was in a coma for many weeks. It’s been 6 years now and she will never be the same person she was and we deal with it daily.
