Going from 0 to 2.5 nitrate is causing a lot of algae problems.

I’ve had 0 nutrients in my 40 breeder for a long time because I only have 3 small fish in the system, after my corals have started losing colors I started heavier feedings and got my nitrate up to 2.5 and phosphate to .25 and the colors look better than ever but I’m starting to get a lot of algae. Does anyone know why I have a lot of algae with 2.5 nitrates and some people run 20+ nitrate with no algae?? I’m assuming it’s some type of gha. I have increased my cuc and they don’t seem to be taking care of anything except for the glass.

Growth might not be entirely algae.i am wondering whether the fuzzy translucent growth is a cyanobacteria.

I am thinking that high phosphates is your problem. You could do a really big water change or use gfo or something similar to bring down phosphates. It seems like your food is phosphate rich. You could switch to something else or just dose nitrates.

I use frozen most of the time and flake and reef roids 2x a week
