I have a goby and shrimp pair I got from my LFS about a week and a half ago. They were both living in a sea shell so the store gave me that as well. They have both been doing great, the shrimp collected a bunch of sand and seems to have set up inside the shell again. The goby has been guarding the entrance the entire time until today. He is swimming all over the tank and swimming up and down the glass. He did eat a little bit today but not a lot. I've seen this discussed in a couple other threads so it doesn't appear to be unheard of behavior. This tank is about 3 months old, I have 2 maroon clowns, 2 cleaner shrimp, a conch, 3 snails, and some coral. Everyone else is acting normal.
What should I look out for that would indicate this is about to be a problem?

His breathing looks a tiny bit labored and he appears to be glass surfing in the other videos.

#fishmedic might be able to assist but I would monitor him now I think its a tad too early to make a decision yet.

How are the other fish behaving any breathing hard or erratic swimming

Thanks for the reply...The other fish (2 maroon clowns) are breathing and swimming normally. The male clown was showing interest in the goby for the first time, maybe since he's not usually out of the shell home?

I would observe him for now. Watch the clowns if they are chasing him away from his area. Watch for any spots and or shakes of head or scratching against objects

Nothing else changed in the tank? Im concerned because of the sudden start of he glass surfing, that is a sign of stress, but I can’t tell you what the cause of the stress might be. The rapid breathing is probably a result of the fish’s increased activity.
Is there good aeration in the tank?
Does the water test good?

I did have what appeared to be a small outbreak of dinos that my LFS recommended doing a 48 hour blackout to get rid of. I removed the blanket from the tank the day before the goby started acting odd. Good news is no sign of any dinos now. Also this morning the goby appears to be acting normally.
Water parameters are all good except alk was a little low. I was going to do my weekly 10% water change today. Should I wait to see how the goby does over the next couple of days?

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Blackouts can cause transient low oxygen levels - if you don’t run a protein skimmer, it is best to add extra aeration.
Some dinoflagellates can release toxins into the water, you can try removing those with activated carbon and/or water changes.

Are there any other fish in the tank? Any symptoms with them?

Is the goby eating today?

Yes, the goby is eating and acting perfectly normal today. 2 maroon clowns have been acting normally the whole time.
I had just replaced my carbon the day before I started the 48 hour blackout.
Good to know about the extra aeration, I don't have a skimmer.
I'll do a 10% water change later today
