Glass or acrylic--not a tank, a pedestal for lack of a better word

I am looking at putting either a 1/2" to 1" sheet of glass or acrylic between my tank and stand. I am thinking of running a strip LED in the back of the tank to shine light through the glass/acrylic for a bit of flare. The tank has a bit of an overhang in the front to be flush with the doors, so I want whatever material would be the strongest beneath the tank and beneath that front overhang:

Any thoughts on which material would (A) support the front glass and (B) look best with a LED strip behind it? Thanks!

I would say acrylic. Maybe tenecor can sell you a sheet custom sized the way you need

Curious, have you tried the light on the bottom glass?

I agree acrylic would work better than glass.

Good eye, I did a double take looking at it. I think reflection, but I'll check when I get in to be sure.

Not 100% sure if bottom us completely flush. Was for sure planning to have a leveling mat on top of the acrylic/glass. Would that relieve pressure if the glass is slightly off level? I suppose it could do more harm to the seam instead of protecting the seam if it is pushing up on the front glass?

Do you mean running the strip on the bottom glass to see if it shines through the front? I haven't bought it yet, but that's one idea, given that I'll have a sand bed to prevent light spill into the display.

Yes, exactly what I mean.
A quick flashlight test will tell you for sure.
