Hey all!

I am considering purchasing a new aquarium, and looking at a few options. I haven't made any firm decisions yet, but I'd love to see some of your aquaria - looking specifically at the Glass Cages or Tenecor 100 gallon ACRYLIC tanks, measuring about 48"x24"x20". Does anyone run one of these tanks? How are you liking it? Would anyone mind sharing some pics of their tank please?

Thanks for your help!

I'm pretty sure @Joe Glass Cages would have a few pics for ya' ,but you customize your overflow and returns...
Thanks! I know Joe is an active member here, I reached out to him last week via their website for a quote, and got an immediate reply. Joe was unavailable, but got me to one of his guys, who was really quick to reply and very helpful. I am just hoping to see some pics of what you guys are running!

You've made a wise decision with GC. They are among the best. @Joe Glass Cages does a really good job managing quality. Yes, they are a little pricey, but you really get what you pay for. I'll be getting a 48x39x25 from them next Spring or Summer. Can't wait to see it! Yours too!

Guys, before this gets too much further........

I was very, very serious about this purchase, and I fully believe from all my research and previous conversations here at R2R, that I would go Glass Cages over Tenecor at this point. If for no other reason, Glass Cages was VERY prompt in getting back to me, and going back and forth. Tenecor has yet to respond to my original general inquiry last week.

But, I am a budget reefer, and I really haven't been able to get past a specific SC Aquariums tank I noticed......

I get that these SCA tanks are Chinese and imported, but from what I'm seeing they are well received and more affordable then the comparable alternative. I'm sorry to Joe and to Glass Cages, I do understand that there's a certain "value" in your product, and I see that, but I am on a super limited budget.

The tank I'm looking at would be an SCA 150 (60x24x24) setup peninsula style, and pre-drilled for a Synergy Shadow overflow, which was my biggest negative. I learned just tonight that Modular Marine will make an overflow that fits this tank, and I'm now thinking this may be the best option for us. The 60" length fits our space really, really nicely, and my wife and I are both excited for the peninsula setup; never ran one before. I tried to price out a similar sized tanks at Glass Cages - acrylic or glass- and it just comes out significantly more expensive for what I want.

It's with a lot of regret that I post this. I was really interested in a Glass Cages aquarium, I get why they are such a value and a beautiful product, and I appreciate Joe's integrity and professionalism. I'd have no problems recommending a Glass Cages aquariums based on everything I have learned. But this is a big decision for us, and at this point I think that the SCA may be our best choice.

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your help!

Thank you so, so much for posting a pic! I love it!

I actually really like the black silicon, I prefer it, it stays cleaner longer, in my humble opinion.

I just wanted to *see* one of these tanks. I mean, I know what a fish tank looks like ;-)

But, Joe's site has a lot of close-up pics of the different bracing and seam options, but not much for full shots of tanks I may actually buy (I do get they are all built to order (and if I'm missing something on their website please post!)). Tenecor has just a few pics of each tank, but it's a generated image from a drafting program, it's not a real pic..... Again, I just wanted to *see* some of these tanks.

Guys, at this point I am like 99% all for the 150 gallon SC Aquarium I mentioned above. I showed it to my wife, and she loves it :) I think it would cost almost twice as much for a similar sized Glass Cages tank, and I just can't swing that, I'm sorry.

Sorry to have brought this up! Best of luck to everyone, especially Glass Cages!

Thanks! I sincerely meant it, it's just looking like that SCA fits my space and budget a little better right now. But thanks very much for your reply!
Hey. No problem. It was very nicely put. And I understand budget. Fifteen years ago I was in the same position. My wife still doesn't really know how much I spent. Even going budget, it became a black hole of spending! Getting close to retirement, I find I've benefited from my wife's efforts to invest and save money. So learn from from her!!!!

I like that, thank you! My wife definitely loves our tanks, but she is the more financially reasonable half here for sure lol! That said, she greenlighted a larger tank, and she really likes that SCA, the dimensions, and how we could run it peninsular style. I think this may be the tank for us :)

Thanks again for your reply!

@Fish Fan

Thanks so much for the consideration. Truly appreciated.

First, I must apologize for not responding sooner. Silas (my middle child) got married this past Friday. I have been traveling with family starting mid last week and just returned to the office about 2 hours ago. We are so excited for Silas and his bride. We welcome her into the family with huge open arms!

Decisions are tough sometimes. They are really hard when your decision criteria is not well defined. When you have all the details of what you want, sure makes it easier to evaluate all options for the best fit. Best fit is the right choice. I am glad we were part of your process and consideration. I am glad you found the best fit and that you will be staying in the hobby. Thats a great win for you. Thanks again for sharing all the details on your decision. We are always here to support even if a tank is not bought from Glasscages.

Please do a build thread. gotta see it all come together. Thanks again.

Joe, thank you for (again) commenting on my posts here at Reef2Reef!

I was in no way saying you didn't reply to me quickly, in fact, I mentioned that you immediately forwarded my message to Silas, who replied to my inquiries quickly, and very professionally. I'm still waiting on my first reply from your other competitor....

Your products and service are no way in question here :) Again, from my research, you would be my first choice for a premium tank. That SCA tank is just checking so many boxes for my wife and I from the dimensions, to the peninsula setup, and yes, the cost, sadly.

But I cannot thank you and Silas enough for your time and help with my purchase questions. Should I need in the future, or need to recommended, a premium product, it's Glass Cages for sure.

Thanks again, Joe and Silas at Glass Cages!

oh man... all good. I wasn't suggesting that at all. you are good.

I was trying to make fun of myself. I need to leave joking to the professionals. Hahahaha.

My heart is all about serving. Serving is my core. Also was a great opportunity for me to share how proud I am of Silas for his new journey in his life.

you are good @Fish Fan, your first outline of your decision was great. It was very respectful and on point. Based on your outline, we at Glasscages succeeded. One of our top goals is to educate. That truly occurred. You were able to make the best decisions for your needs. Thats excellent.

Always here to support

Thanks, Joe!

I just wanted to be clear to anyone else that may be considering Glass Cages and found this post!

I don't think my humble decision to go with a Chinese import company for this purchase is going to set you guys back at all. I think many reefers are looking for a premium solution, and Glass Cages certainly checks those boxes.

Best of luck to Glass Cages, to you, and to Silas! Top notch customer service, from just my brief interaction.

Thanks again for your time!
