Over the last 2 years or so, it seems like giganteas have become hard to find. Most LFS and online retailers rarely carry them, and if they do, they sell out within the hour. And most of the ones I've seen carried, aren't colorful (tan).

Does anyone know why this is the case? Is it due to a region export ban?

Try a tan one..I've seen some pretty drab looking ones color up nicely under strong/proper lighting.

Agree with @Hot2na, even drab looking Giganteas are beautiful, and they will color up some with bright light they need. If I see a Gigantea, I most likely will buy them even if I have to set up an aquarium for them. Gigantea are really hard to come by here in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Same here in Bay Area; very rarely see gigantea. Even online retailers seem to not be able to get them regularly.
