I've been using the BRS GFO for a while now but it seem the price has gone up. I have a tub of the Brightwell ExtraxPhos running right now and it seems to work pretty good, but I wouldn't use on a reef - I run a FO right now.

IMO, the best GFO on the market is Rowaphos hands down. It costs a fortune comparitively, but you can get away with using less and it doesn't seem to get exhausted as quickly.

I've had great luck with BRS Hi Cap. It seems to last a long time, rinses clean quickly and is easier to tumble as less is needed.

I agree, I use ROWAphos also. Definitely use less and lasts longer.

It all comes from the same two sources regardless of who repackages and sells it. Its all basically the same with the exception of grain size or if its pelletized or not. Bayer Chemical and Severn Trent are the two major manufacturers and wholesalers to everyone in the industry.

If all the gfo comes from the same source, why rowaphos last longer?

I am not entirely convinced it does. Has anyone does testing under controlled conditions to demonstrate that or is it word of mouth?

I haven't done any controlled testing, just based on my observations. To achieve the same reduction of phosphate while using Rowaphos vs. BRS GFO vs. BRS high capacity GFO vs. PO4x4 all require different volumes (per manufacturer specifications) and Rowaphos claims to be the most potent. It may just be due to purity or surface area, but the duration that the media lasts until exhausted has been noticibly longer with Rowaphos IME.

Not under controlled conditions but i switched from BRS GFO 6 months ago and i would say that in the same tank under the same conditions rowaphos last more time.
