I purchased a used tank with a synergy V2 installed. Tank is now up and running. Should have read the threads about how loud they are. Anyway, here we are. Has anyone had any luck tuning one to be quiet? The best I can get is a waterfall trickling. Not overly loud with a canopy in place but enough that I hear it. Would love some insight if anyone has a trick to getting the thing to quiet down.

I’ll take a video when I get home this afternoon.
Until then I’ll give some info on what’s happening.
My main syphon is running silently. The open line will run quietly but with an intermittent gurgling. There is a constant waterfall sound which appears to be going from the in tank box to the ext box. Which a lot of people have complained about because of the height difference.
My thought is that I need to increase the water height in the ext box by closing my gate valve. This makes the gurgling sound worse from the open (middle) drain as it pulls in air from the syphon break hole. Wondering if I add a small piece of airline as a snorkel to the open line may help.
I have tried speeding up my return pumps, no luck. Slowing them down, same thing.

Can you add a elbow to the secondary pipe, pointing upward, to raise water level?

I have an elbow to the secondary but it points down. Like an upside down U. If I point it up or remove the U then the overflow is ridiculously loud.

A taller pipe is needed not closing the valve. (if there is room in the ext box)

I on/off gurgling sounds like you have to much flow in the secondary.
The gate needs a slightly more opening to allow more flow. The secondary should only be a trickle. Once the secondary is quite, imagine everything raised up so there is no more waterfall.

This is the way.

So a slightly taller pipe for the syphon line? Or the secondary line?

everything taller.

I'm going to edit, 1 minute.

Everything taller to keep the perspective orientation on the pipes.

Actually, the main can stay the same, the secondary higher, this controls the height in the ext box. The emergency needs to be about 1/2 taller than the secondary.

Hmm, I may have to see what I can do. I have tried to remove the U pipe from the main syphon and cannot get it off. Of course the tank is 8’ long and there’s no good way to get to the box.

That’s what I was envisioning keeping the main the same and raising the secondary.

They can never be silent. You will always have the waterfall sound because it’s a stupid design. And if you run the water level super high, you will get loads of salt creep around the lid.

It’s an absolutely garbage product

I am starting to figure that out. But alas, here we are. I have heard the synergy name forever I never thought twice. Hindsight, I would have taken it out and replaced with a modular marine. But short of draining the tank and moving it out I am stuck.

Yep. That’s where I was for over 2 years with my last system

How much flow are you running though it? I have 1500g approximately going through mine and it took some tuning but you can get it near silent. I have the main with the u fitting, the secondary about 3/4” from the top of the box with no fitting (this sets the water height in the box and keeps you from having the waterfall sound and the emergency about 1/4” or so above that. I start with the gate valve on the main open and I close it slowly waiting for a full siphon and the water to slowly rise in the box until it is just a trickle over the secondary. The surface agitation on my tank makes more noise than the overflow. This is on a new tank so I haven't run it long but I cycled the return on and off a few dozen times so far and right back to near silent every time.

I’ll give that a try when I get home. I may be able to uncouple the secondary U. Which is just 2 90’s together and see if that raises the height enough.

Are you running the synergy overflow? I have my pumps down to probably about 1500g right now.

I have a tideline overflow but it is near the same design as synergy. When I first started up my tank I had tons of noise too. What I realized was the gyre flow pumps were pushing water out or away from the weir teeth and creating noise. When I turned the gyres off the tank ran silent. After changing up the flow a little it helped a lot. Mainly I just lowered the gyres a little further below the surface
