Hi there, I will be quarantining fish using the tank transfer method, so I was wondering if I use general cure how to use it? I know that there are two ways to do so, that is in the food and in water. I heard some people say that general cure dosed in the food is better as that cheaper. But does that treat both internal and external parasites? Please let me know, if it does then do I have to dose general cure in the water? Please let me know the difference and how to dose general cure during the tank transfer method. Thanks!

I prefer to dose in the food as it is more likely to ensure it gets to the fish. I generally use Metroplex by Seachem as I feel it is better and that treats a little bit of everything, both external and internal. I like to use a food binder with any medicine im dosing to food. I use Focus by Seachem paired with metroplex generally. It is a 1:1 ratio of metroplex to focus. But for dosing focus, there are instructions on the side of the packaging. I also like to soak food in garlicguard and pour it straight into the tank. Some people are against that but I have found it improves the health of my fish and I have never had a problem from it. You can use general cure but I prefer this alternative. I don't use general cure, so sorry for not totally answering your question but I hope that provides some insight.

I see thank you so much! If you don’t mind, can you please tell me how you quarantine your fish? Like the whole process.

I haven't quarantined a fish in a long time. a week ago was my first time buying a fish in 2 years and those fish were already treated with prazi and copper, so i plopped them right in. if I see a fish is bad I put it in a QT and treat it. There are plenty of great threads with QT processes. I wouldn't follow what i do :face-with-tears-of-joy:

You need to do it in the water. If you attempt to feed it then you need to do calculattions on the amount of medicine to the mass (or weight I forget) of the fish. Once you get an accurate dose, part of it (the metronidazole) can become too bitter to where the fish won't even eat it.

Depends on the fish :face-with-tears-of-joy: I could feed my tank rocks and they'd still eat it

Does dosing it in the water treat both externally and internally? Does it also deworm the fish? Also while using the tank transfer method, is keeping the fish in GC for 72 hours enough? I saw some people use 1/8th tsp of focus and gc with 1tbsp of food. Which deworms the fish, but I am not sure if it treats external parasites and all. But then again I am not sure whether dosing in the water treats only the external parasites or also the internal parasites and deworms the fish. I was thinking of doing both, in the water and food. If it is not needed then great. Please let me know.
