I've noticed the successful vase reefers (Maritza the vase, etc) all use air pumps with airline cut at an angle in lieu of an airstone. Having started w FW in the early 80's,I grew to dislike air pumps. They are loud and we are moving states in an rv for at least a year.
A 3g rimless was 50% off at Petco a few months ago and it should fit in the rv nicely. It has a fairly tight lid and I will make it tighter with some kind of silicone airline seal around the edges to eliminate the need for an ato. Our preference would be to use an in-tank nano pump but I'm wondering if the key to the vase folks' success is the air bubbles due to gas exchange or some other parameter. Will be using existing live rock with rfa, gorgs, porites, and pbly zoa and zenia. Livestock besides rfa are sexy shrimp and brittle star. Weekly 75%+ w/c.
Any thoughts on the most successful vase reefers using air pumps?

I’m not completely perfectly sealed but I’m pretty close. I don’t use an air pump / stone at all

If you are careful with your life stock choices and plan, you can do what I’m doing. This was setup in February and has not had a single water change. I clean the glass once every 4-6 weeks. I refill the ato weekly.
