We had a 16" naso in a 400g tank at the lfs as a store mascot he was with the owner for over 15 years. He made that tank look small, very active fish. Id say no on the 180 for the big guy. I have a 180 also and have been tempted to get a naso (my favorite sw fish) when I set it up, but I know its not really big enough and I would not want to rehome it.

Too new of a tank, too big of a fish for a 180, and not a Blonde Naso
Since you cannot tell a Blonde Naso from Naso your affinity to the Blonde Naso cannot be that serious. It is a beautiful fish, but require more than a brand new 180 gal tank with a reefer/aquarist who have not look too much into the fish that he apparently “really wanted”
Do a search , read about them. They often have sudden unexpected death that I think (IMO) associated with stress and inadequate living condition.
I agree. And I also was going to point out it not being blonde! I prefer the regular naso to the blonde personally. They are big fish, grow fast too. Got my girl Gemma when she was an inch, shes probably 4 going on 5 now. Big girl, and part of why I pulled the trigger on the 300 gallon!

i cant think

Went to a new LFS about 50 mins away, well new to me, and found this big boa…

The guy working says he is bassicly a employee with how long he has been there and he has been copper and medicated and still hasn’t sold due to his size. He is my guess 12+in and 2in streamers, only for 600. While they have like 5-6in naso for 250 also medicated.
I am cycling a 180 right now with 40gal sump and it’s going to be a fish with some coral tank, and my mascot fish is a blonde naso as I already have a hand painted portrait on the tank. Is he to big already for that tank? Should I get a 6in one instead? Would he kill any future tang with his size? Also do wanna say never seen a tang be hand fed nori till I meet this big fella rip it out of the employees hand. SO SWEET!
If it helps I am getting a 36watt sterilizer for the tank soon just don’t know if he is to big off the jump
Just wanted to say this is not a Blonde Naso and is instead Naso literatus.

I've always fed my tangs emerald entrée and it seems to have everything in it they need. I don't like nori rapped around my sticks and with high flow doesn't work well for me. Most acans will hit 4 - 6 inch relatively quick and then slow down to maybe an inch a year give or take. I'm guessing that fish is close to 10 years old. I would say the fish will be fine if your not gonna throw 300 ponds of rock in there.
your acans? im slightly confused youre saying I can get away with the big naso????

Part of the joy of this hobyy for me is watching, and getting the satisfaction that you have kept, "grown" a fish from young to adult, so i personally wouldnt. The smaller the better in most cases for me and Naso's in general are hungry horses and grow extremely quickly in the right environment.

Id also say even though your tanks large, its still not alrge enough for a full grown Naso even though this one isnt quite there yet.
Sadly realizing this, and I love feeding my two purples and in under 3-4 months they have doubled size with how much nori I feed them just because I like to watch them eat so I can only assume it will be the same with future tangs in this new 180. Good thing is they have a lot of 6in naso medicated and treated in copper for only 250 so will have to snag one of those.

I have a monster sized naso in a 225 72x36x20. I have taken a lot of rock out for room for him.

If I found someone with a larger tank I’d give him away from free.

They need big tanks.

Just like @UMALUM said. It’s the best fish I have ever owned. He eats out of my hand.
Go for a 6in one from the store and enjoy him grow or go with a even smaller one?

The difference between a naso and a blonde naso in other experiences is just looks, or does one have a meaner personality or grow faster or not as peaceful with tank mates? Going to use this an opportunity to learn and will go read as well online.

Looks and from my understanding a different part of the world and harsher collection methods. I prefer the regular naso. I love mine (Gemma). Shes a very peaceful fish. Best buds with my unicorn naso.

How fast do they grow? Mine was a little over 2 inches when I got him about 6 weeks ago, now he is larger than 3 inches. I swear I can see him growing on the daily basis.

How much did you pay for a 2in guy? Also any other tangs in the tank, if so did everyone play nice and what was your acclimation process?

Looks like a regular naso not a blonde. Also 180g is pretty tight for that size fish.

This is exactly what I was going to say. Blonde Naso's are called such because their top fin is blonde just like the bottom. That is a regular Naso. But beautiful none the less. ! They say a minimum tank size of 180, but that does not seem like much room fr an 18 inch long fish to swim in.

aww, that little fella is just as cute as can be!! :D as they grow, they slow down a bit from my understanding. They grow rather fast up to about 6 inches, then slow down quite a bit from there on out.
