from 75g to 180g build thread

So, on a whim while moving our 75 gallon to our new house, we decided to upgrade!

Found a 180 gallon on facebook marketplace locally for $850. He accepted $500.

The listing photo:

Dimensions 74” long 26.5” deep80” tall. Tank with stand and canopy.

We put up the 75 gallon temporarily in a not good area lol... but this will do for now. The tank cleared up, I will post an updated photo.

Currently in the 75 gallon I am running two AI Hydra 32 lights
Reef Octopus Classic 110INT
ReefWave 25 Pump and 2 wave makers
Trigger Tideline 30 Sump

2 BTA, a bunch of leathers ( weeds), GSP on back wall, misc zoas, carpet anemone, snails, crabs and urchins


So far I have purchased for the new tank:

Whats going to happen / the plan:

Re seal the tank - the front seals look like they were scraped a bit while cleaning so going to reseal for that reason and also why not?! Also re skin the cabinet, and have a custom acrylic top made ( similar to the top thats on my 75 gallon ). Also going to have a custom sump made as well. I plan to keep my skimmer for now and will upgrade that once everything is up and moving.


So far... on my whim... I have spent $3k. lol

Anyways, I am very exited to get this going!

180 gallon in its new space! It’s 6 ft tall with no top

Our buddy is coming on Saturday to measure for the top and the sump. My hubby is trading a transmission for the work lol.

Hubby is going to reseal the tank today / tomorrow. And we will be reskinning the cabinet probably this weekend.

I’m going to stop by my LFS this weekend and put a purple tang, flame angel and melanurus wrasse on hold.

Need to get some more fish !

Thanks, I know its not high tec and fancy, but I like to keep track of my journey. I def. forgot to take an updated photo of my 75 gallon. It seems so so small compared to this one. I just cant wait!

I had a moment here of not doing filter socks, but to get a roller.... I decided to stay with socks.

I currently run a mesh sock and its much better for me vs the others. I have them, but washing them is a pain!
