Friday the 21st is my husband and my 10th wedding anniversary, and I am so excited to surprise him with a 3.5 gallon pico tank for his office!!! I just got the tank today via Amazon, a Marineland 3.5 contour, so today the adventure begins! When I get home I will set it up and get the cycle started. Lucky for this surprise my husband is leaving town for a conference on Sunday and won't be back until late Thursday night, so I can get it all set up for him without his knowledge for when he gets back. He's mentioned how cool it would be to have a frogfish, and since they need a species only tank I decided that a small one would be perfect for the pico! My favorite somewhat LFS up in Virginia, Aquariums Unlimited, is holding a cute little 1-2 inch juvenile painted frogfish for me. She is still black with a few white spots, so it will be interesting to see what colors she changes to as she matures. I cannot wait to get it all set up and surprise him for our anniversary!

Took only about 45 minutes total to get it set up! I love it! I was able to get 7 bio balls in the back chamber. Sunday I will get a heater and carbon filters. Don't judge the rockwork, I just threw it in there to start cycling. Next week I'll move the tank to his office, and scape it then.

Yesterday I got the rest of the stuff I needed for the tank: a heater, chemi-pure, and sand. I also threw in a snail since there is a bit of algae on the live rock I had moved from our 125. From Amazon I just got a collection of little brightly colored fake corals to encourage him to color up. And I went by my LFS where the frogfish is being held for me and I got to see him! He is so stinkin' cute! Solid black with little white dots decorating his fins. He was bouncing along his little section of tank, eyeing the little royal gramma in the section next to him like it would make a good lunch. They gave him a little ghost shrimp, which landed right on the frogfish and lasted a whole 2 seconds before he swallowed it. 4 more days and he'll be in his new home!

Very cool, but you added the fish really quickly! You watching ammonia levels?

Keep us posted with the fish's progress!

Yes, watching. And some of the rock was already live, and all the sand came from our other tanks, so the tank is pretty good to go. Plus added some Biospira.
